Hey Guys,
Who out here uses Space Marine company veterans? What do you think of them, and how do you use them?
I like that for a few extra points, I get Basic marine who can carry a Storm Shield (with that nice invun) and any heavy/special loadout. I use them as a bodyguard squad for my librarian - a kind of roving heavy-hitting squad with shields and plasma guns.
How do you use them?

Storm Bolters and Chainswords.
Otherwise groups of 3 with all Plasma Guns in a Termite.

They are trash. They are overprice for the firepower or clise combat killy ability. Other than the Veteran Biker in the index, which taking twin bolters, stormbolter and chainsword allows you chew through hordes, especially Ultramarines who can fall back from tarpit and keep vomit that 8 shots per model.
The OP said the veterans are supposed to be "bodyguard" of the Librarian. It is worth noting that, the "bodyguard" rule for Space Marines of all kinds are the worst one. Unlike the Tau cheating drones, the Space Marine suffers one MW for each dmg their character suffers while the Tau and Deathguard's are for each wound. i.e. If that Librarian suffers one unsaved TH wound, it kills 3 veterans should they decided to intercept. While the Tau drones suffers only one MW. What Space Marines got this edition is definitely not the Look out Sir of the old edition.

I'm loving them in my BA with jump pack's, storm bolter's and chainswords. Keeping them cheap to help stop sniper's and shield breaker's.
@Neophyte2012 Never noticed that before actually. Good spot. That might just kill them without an FAQ.

The command squad bodyguard rule is not a choice. You must roll a dice every time a character within 3" loses a wound. On a 2+ the squad suffers 1 MW. Its possible that not all wounds are intercepted. There is a way around that for BA, but its quite expensive. You need a company ancient with the standard of sacrifice (63 pts). He gives every model within 6" a 5+ FNP (which works against MW), in addition to the 4+ shoot or fight one time when the model dies. If the FNP roll fails you can roll if the model gets to shoot or fight on 4+. A sanguinary novitiate (55 pts) can revive killed company veterans, which can intercept wounds again, with 5+ FNP, shoot or fight again on 4+......

Kryczek - I didn't think you could take jump packs on Company Veterans. I need to check my codex again...
The point about the bodyguard not being optional is well taken, maybe plasma and storm shields in a castle in the back? My army is a combo with a small castle and large assault wing (death company). It either has to move fast, or hit hard/defend well. So storm shields in the back with big guns makes sense. Then the bodyguard rule would only kick in if someone got close enough to my Capt/Lt units in the castle. At which point they are just really expensive extra wounds for the Capt
