I'd like to have a single force org list. No titans or anything that's new since 5th edition ended.
I have enough of everything to make anything from 5th edition, but the list needs to be 8th ed legal.
In the past I would have run something like
Eldrad
Another Farseer (fortune)
Fire Dragons in a wave serpent
banshees in a wave serpent (or harlequins on foot)
Troops, anycombo
Rangers
Dire Avengers
Storm Guardians
Guardian Defenders (with and without weapon platforms)
And all with it or without serpents
Heavy Support
Fire Prisms
Wraithlords
Falcons
I have fast attack, but never really exploited it.
Jetbikes and vipers, not sure how many I have anymore,
What would a passable 8th ed list look like?

Here's a fairly fluffy biel-tan list I ran at a local tournament. I actually won and managed to table a couple opponents, but everyone there were new players and this list is by no means OP. If you're playing a very friendly game or new player then I might drop a wave serpent though Biel-tan Swordwind Battalion Detachment: Farseer - 110 Warlord, Trait: Natural Leader, Powers: Doom & Executioner Warlock - 55 Quicken/Restrain 2 x 5 Dire Avengers - 128 Exarch w/ Twin Pults 5 Dire Avengers - 64 Exarch w/ Twin Pults Vanguard Detachment Warlock - 55 Protect/Jinx 2 x 6 Fire Dragons - 288 Exarch 5 Howling Banshees - 68 Exarch w/ Executioner 2 x Wave Serpent - 288 3 Shuriken Cannon, Vectored Engines Wave Serpent - 144 3 Shuriken Cannon, Vectored Engines ------------------------------------------------------------ Everything fits in the waveserpents so you only deploy 3 models at the beginning of the game. This lets you fully take advantage of the phantasmancy stratagem where you redeploy 3 units before the first turn of the game just in case someone siezes the initiative. Keep an avenger unit in each wave serpent to spread out your objective holders. And don't throw your serpents at them on the first turn, just move and advance them into better position about halfway up the board and let the -1 to hit from the vectored engines protect you. Sometimes its worth waiting until Turn 3 to let out your squishy doods as long as your serpents aren't hurting. Make sure to take advantage of the serpent shield discharge and the stratagem to let you discharge it again later in the game

Where do I find the rules for

Back end of the codex.
Solid list posted above. Maybe consider a fireprism or something for extra anti-tank, linked fire is good. The nuke-and-die playstyle of the dragons still holds true so getting some more durable pewpew could be good.
Guardians are alright, rangers with alaitoc and the ranger stratagem are decently strong. GL!

Well, I suggest battlescribe for army building. It contains also the warlord traits and the relics, but not the stratagems.

So I got my first game in since 5th edition. Its good, somethings are very odd. Like being able to smite a tank, lol. But fire dragons walked, ran, shot, and killed a sicarian tank on turn 2. Felt like cheating.
There was nothing weak in the 3 wave serpent list. I did lose all my banshees, so I didn't get to test them out. They weren't even being focused on, it was just bad luck.
Anyhow... this serpent sheild, does that blow out the serpent sheild entirely or do the rules mean, you can pop it just once a game. Can you blow the sheild, to cause mortal wounds and it still protects against incomming fire?

It loses it's protective quality after being "fired" but you can fire it again for ecost of 1 CP via a stratagem.

Try this!
Patrol Detachment:
Craftworld Alaitoc
Patrol Detachment: Alaitoc
HQ:
1 Autarch w/Fusion Gun & Power Sword
Troops:
2 Squads of 6 Dire Avengers w/ Exarch w/ Shimmer Shield and Power Glaive
2 Squads of 6 Rangers
Fast Attack:
1 Squad of 7 Warp Spiders w/Exarch w/2 deathspinners
Ulthwe` Battalion
HQ:
1 X Eldrad
2 Farseer on Jetbikes w/singing spears
Troops:
3 Squads of 10 Black Guardians w/EDL
Fast Attack:
2 Squads of 4 Jetbikes w/ Shuriken Cannons
Add all this up and if there is room, bring in a Fireprisim and perhaps more Aspect choices with the Ulthwe` battalion.
