Hilarious new Regimental Standard: https://regimental-standard.com/2018/09/26/managing-your-canid/

But now I want to use a Doggie in 40k! So what would a Canid be?

Elite, Character:
Yes, make the Canid a character. Makes sense, as when everything else is going on, it'd be hard to single out the dog. Such a character should just have 1 wound, S2 T2, 6+ save, and 1 attack. It's main use? Ignore one dead model for purposes of Ld tests. Another ability would/could be that if an adjacent squad were to suffer a mortal wound as a result of terrain, the Canid can take the wound instead. Lastly, a friendly Infantry unit within 6 inches of a Canid can shoot at an enemy unit that sets up within 12 inches of a Canid. The doggie barks when people try to surprise you!

Gathering the Informations.

Alternatively, you could look at the rules for Axmillion in the Rogue Trader stuff. They're not crazy powerful but rather they just make it so the normally all shooter squad has a CC unit.

How is the Tau have had Kroot Hounds for ages and the Imperium is just now getting doggies?

- Guardsman pack master and 3-5 hounds, fast attack close combat unit.

- Space Wolf Lord of the Hunt (on foot or on Thunderwolf) with 3-5 dire wolves. Elite close combat unit.

- White Scars Huntsman (on foot or on bike) with 3-5 cybernetic hunting wolves. Fast attack close combat unit.

I need to model up a guardsman with a Doberman, and call him Junkyard and Mutt.

It never ends well

I thought the article was great.

@Stormonu
You haven't seen them in 40k because they don't want a momo to bring her kid into a store and see a mass of dogs being shot at.

If they add them in it would be as a character or something small like they just did in the RT box set

''who's a good boy?''
Units within 6'' can reroll failed hit rolls with grenades.

The doggo fetches the ball so you can throw it again.

I kept thinking about that old empire piggin bomb that had a chance to bring the grenade back in fantasy when I read the article.
