Hey all,
New to the forum. Haven't played
40k since 4th ed! Trying to make an 8th ed. list to get back into it. I've always played
IG; Tanks + Troops gun-line has always been my go-to. I have always like Space Marines though. I'm still not exactly clear on the rules for 'allied detachments'. I got excited when i realized 'everything' has the Imperium keyword, but I saw an
FAQ saying that you have to be more specific in tourneys now. It did say that you can take multiple detachments, and that each detachment can be different, so I hope this is 'legal', please tell me if it's not. I just love the idea of matching the strengths of
IG and
SM.

The basic idea is to advance to center(give or take) and hold. There is a base-of-fire made up of 5 Leman Russ tanks, with fire support help from the 3 Landspeeders. The Techmarines are there to extend the life of the tanks to keep the big guns pounding away (and to fill
HQ slots). The rest of the force moves out, adjusting their advance lanes according to available cover, and objective placement. The Marines grab objectives, the Terminators cover them by attracting fire, and dealing with enemy melee units, as does the Dreadnought. The
Tac squads all have a Metla, the idea being they will have advanced to about the middle of the board, so they can punish big/heavy things that are hanging back, and/or camping objectives.
