I'm getting into KT to start a matched play campaign with a buddy. He's going Thousand Suns and I'm going Astra Militarum (Scions, unless otherwise convinced).

1. Is there a consensus as to whether more bodies or more quality fire power is "better"? For example, should I max out Scion Gunners resulting in a potent small model count team or max out standard Scions with a few Scion gunners (lists below)?

2. Should I scrap Scions altogether and go lots of bog standard Guardsmen given all the AP -2 TS Inferno bolters?

3. The Campaign Command Roster only allows 12 models to start. Should I factor this into the max bodies or max dakka decision?

4. Any tactics or strategies I need to be cognizant of when playing a long campaign compared to individual games?

Scion lists
Spoiler:
Dakka
Tempestor w/ plasma pistol (Leader)
2x Scion Gunners w/ plasma guns (1x Sniper)
2x Scion Gunners w/ hot-shot volley guns (1x Heavy)
1x Guardsman w/vox (Comms)
3x Scions
100 pts

Bodies
Tempestor (Leader)
Scion Gunner w/ plasma gun (Sniper)
Scion Gunner w/ hot-shot volley gun (Heavy)
1x Guardsman w/vox (Comms)
6x Scions
100 pts

Thanks in advance!

Well, it really depends. Because you know ahead of time it's vs Thousand Sons (aka the Cheesiest of the Cheese), unless you take Plasma Guns on everyone and their dog, you're gonna have a bad time.

More bodies usually results in more shaken models IMO. I've been playing Ork Kommandos, SM Scouts, CSM, and Death Guard.

The Orkz are fun, but every single casualty hurts them in the long run of the game, forget about taking Gretchin. The SM Scouts seem solid, no complaints. My CSM are a bit underwhelming, but I still prefer Marines to Cultists. And on my DG list, pox walkers became a liability early. Once all 5 were down, the morale phase became alot more punishing than any enemy shooting.

Well, this is not good news. Any strategic/tactical suggestions or combos beyond "Plasma Guns everywhere!"? I'm hoping to have a diverse, fun to play, casual competitive list.

Roger that. More guns FTW. I'll lean towards max fire power.

Does anyone have experience playing against TS? What are their main strengths and weaknesses beyond their 3+/5++ and Inferno bolters I should prepare for?

Their main strength is access to Smite and having 2+ saves against almost all basic weaponry.

The short answer is fill your roster with models that let you do both depending on opponent and mission.

The limit of 12 models only applies to the first game in a campaign, after that there is no limit.

With Tyranids I’m torn between a super elite force or a horde. Either something wacky like 4 lictors, or 19 termagants with a gunner Warrior.

My current list is:

Leader - Warrior with Bswords and Dspitter

Specialists
Combat - Genestealer with Acid Maw and talons
Heavy - Warrior Gunner with Bswords and Venom Cannon
Comms - Warrior with Bswords and Dspitter

Hormagaunts x5

So basically a mixed force. Elite stuff, with a decent number of bodies!

The normal issues with morale aren't so much of a problem for Nids because of Synapse. Venom cannon has done me proud!

I'm considering swapping out most of the Gaunts and the Stealer for a Lictor though.

Good suggestions.

Another more specific question. Does the a lvl2 Demolition specialists Grenadier ability apply to Both grenades and grenade launchers? Seems the rules could be interpreted either way.

Normal Scions with Hotshot Lasguns will give even Thousand Sons a hard time if you take enough, also throw in a Volley gun on a Heavy

It applies to weapons with type Grenade.

I'm definitely leaning Scions, but I'm still waffling on max Scion gunners (Plasma and/or Volley) or more hot-shot Scions. Point efficient options include: 1x leader, 4x Scions, 4x Scion gunners (9 models); 1x leader, 7x Scions, 2x Scion gunners (10 models); 1x leader, 10x Scions (11 models, but kinda extreme).

How essential is Vox/Comms specialist for a Scions list? Auto-include or ignore and pack in more dakka? I've been going back and forth. Heavy, Sniper, Demo, and Comms seem like the best options.

Thanks for the grenade clarification.
