Jealous that Horus is Warmaster
|
Hi guys, im wanting to add some Cultists to my Sons of Horus themed army for when i run them in 40k as Black Legion. Anyway, i'm looking for inspiration for different kits to use to give off the 'Legion'/30k vibe.
I'm looking at GSC Neophytes with different heads currently but i would like some different suggestions.

If you want to stay within GW, Neophyte Hybrids with different heads are probably your best option.

Im not opposed to going with other miniatures companys, and i don't really know what 3rd party bits companies offer so i don't want to rule anything out.

Im looking for something a little less Chaos-ey as the army i run is very clean without mutations or overt chaos iconage because its heresy era themed. essentially what militia may have looked like in the great crusade i suppose?

Frostgrave miniatures have Ghost Archapeligo crew men that might fit. I have some coming with a view to using them as a base for Frateris Militia. A search on ‘size comparison cultist’ would be helpful, often images are out there that let you see how different manufacturers products compare. Good luck.

I’m surprised not to have seen any Necromunda House Cawdor models being used as Chas cultists yet tbh.

I think the new models are subject to scale creep.

The Forge World Renegade Militia are pretty subtle as far as Chaos minis go. Some of the torsos have Chaos stars carved in their armor, but that's it. I've seen people just fill in the stars with putty and use them as Guardsmen, so perhaps consider that as an option. I think they perfectly capture the militia feel because they look rag-tag while still having coherent design, but YMMV.
Alternatively, consider looking into the Crimson Pak models from Mad Robot. No overt Chaos iconography, but definitely a more brutal look to Guardsmen, and they have three styles of helmeted heads (bare face, gas mask, grotesque mask) to mix-and-match.

I thought about it, but they are WAY too expensive to buy in bulk.

Anvil industries have some great head options that you could put on your GS dudes.

I have 4 boxes of the Forge World cultists that I bought a month before they were removed.
I kit bashed them with the new genestealer cult guys and they worked out really well for my Death Guard.
Unfortunately, you would have to get them from a re-caster now but that decision is yours to make.

Do you have any pictures? I've been thinking about mixing GSC and Renegade Militia bits.
