Subject: Correct way of targeting a unit ?

Again, a simple question with a simple answer: today I was asked if a unit is targeted by unit or by model. I couldn't find it on the net and my French rulebook isn't clear enough.
So, if say, 2 models of a 10 men units are at range, is the whole unit able to open fire ? Or only the 2 ?
Thanks !

If I remember correctly, a friendly unit can select an enemy unit as a target.
However only the models that are in range can shoot their ranged weapons.

The specific model that is firing must be in range of the target unit.
You measure all distances for a unit before you start shooting with that unit though, so if as a unit shoots the opponent removes models until the rest of the target is out of range that doesn't matter, the rest of your unit can still shoot at the target as you declared. Even if the rest of the target unit is no longer even visible to the shooting unit.

Yes, you do select a unit to shoot, but range and LOS is checked for every model. A model can see through other models from its own unit. But not other friendly models, or enemy models. After firing and wounding you dont go back to checking range and LOS, so its possible to kill enemy models which arent in range, and not in LOS.
