Was discussing this with my mates. What if the Necron's went back in time to kill the Emperor as a kid and then the Imperium sends Sly Marbo back in time to save him? Would we basically get a recreation of terminator 2? What do you think? Could be an awesome campaign for Killteam or something.

Wow. I want whatever you and your friends are on.

Narratively, what would be necrons' reason to go kill the kid emperor? Perhaps building on this would be a good step towards building your narrative.

If the Imperium never existed then...

Tyranids:
The Tyranids would not have shown up (at least not for a long time). The Tyranids are apparently attracted to the Astronomicon. What relationship do they have with the Necrons? I know the Tyranids mostly ignore tomb worlds.

Orks:
Orks would probably be the same - my reason for this would be that they would go unchecked, but they wouldn't have such a large empire to fight against so it will probably balance out.

Eldar:
The fall of the Eldar would have still happened. Slaanesh would still be the great devourer and the dark eldar would still exist.

Necrons:
The Void Dragon would not have been imprisoned on Mars by the Emperor. This is apparently a C'tan.
Tomb worlds would probably not have been disturbed or settled on... although there could be some other species doing it.
I suppose the Necrons would like a second crack at killing the Eldar and after their fall they are ripe for picking off. With the Emperor and the Imperium out of the way they could do this easier.

Chaos:
Chaos, the warp and the gods probably wouldn't be so powerful. Wiping out all of the "psychic" species in the universe could be a good reason and you could kill the Emperor to extinguish humanity as a threat.

Cabal:
The Cabal wouldn't worry about the Horus Heresy so much. Something else would have to wipe out the primordial annihilator (they farsaw that the death of the Emperor and the ensuing carnage would extinguish Chaos as it would run out of human "fuel").

Humanity:
Would have continued in the Age of Strife for much longer.
The Horus Heresy would never have happened.
Would probably never have colonies or fortified Cadia. I can't decide whether Cadia would fall into Chaos hands, or whether it would just be left alone with no Abaddon to destroy it. The Blackstone fortresses probably wouldn't have been found by the Imperium... or at least not the six that were found by the Imperium.

Tau:
Would have probably expanded a bit further than they have. They still wouldn't dominate the galaxy as they don't travel fast enough.

Well the legend is the emperor was formed as a collective psychic consciousness to combat the ruinous powers.

So:

(a) there is no one person to kill to stop the emperor from existing

(b) chaos would have consumed humanity if not for the emperor. This would be measurably worse for Necrons than the Imperium's crusade.

(c) if Necrons have time travel, they have entirely bigger problems to solve

nah mate, the Emperor was a Native American dude called John Connor from LA in the 20th century. It was after the Necrons attacks and he was saved did he realise what was going to happen to humanity so he gathered his strength and trained to be the best boy ever by doing 100 push ups and and 100 squats a day! Only then did he become unbeatable!

I always had a great idea for a group of different orks to get together to try and steal a holy relic Axe from earth. They would do all kinda crazy adventures like stumble into the Emperors chamber, out wit an inquisitor hunting them down and guess lock codes correctly by accident. Then it turns out the relic is a fake.

Sounds like grounds for a Star Trek: First Contact / Terminator mashup.

Necrons plan to send a timesphere back into Earth's past, but at the last moment an Inquistor and his retinue discover the plot. On board an Imperial Fist battle barge, the Inquisitor's forces launch an assault against the sphere. However, moments after the forces board, the timesphere hurls backwards through time.

The Imperial Fists manage to penetrate deep into the time sphere's interior, only to learn that a Necron strike force has already teleported to the Earth's surface, in search of the nacent Emperor. Leaving the Imperial Fists to wrench control from the Necrons, the Inquisitor and a small strike team follow the Necrons.

The campaign has two distinct portions. Firstly, the Imperial Fist marines assault aboard the time sphere to disrupt/confuse/occupy the Necrons on board and eventually attempt to seize control of the time sphere

The second campaign chronicles the Inquisitor's forces who are hunting for the Necron kill team(s) on a hostile Earth.

If you want to spice it up some and throw in other factions, have ravaged Earth populated with the remnants of world governments (Imperial guard) attempting to regain control over mutant gangs (Genestealer cults, Chaos demons) and stave off mercenary alien invaders (Orks, Eldar) who believe they can plunder the savaged, unprotected world.

It never ends well

The Silent King considers them the greatest threat to the galaxy and the Necrons; his personal quest is discovering a way to return the Necrontyr to "real" bodies, which would naturally become more difficult if the Tyranids exterminate all natural forms of life.

Man...you guys suck at fun. The OP wants to use Terminator/Terminator 2 as a cool Kill Team narrative...I say go for it. Please have Sly Marbo on a Scout Bike at some point with a shotgun...do it. DO IT.

Would be cool. But at the end f the campaign theyre stuck there. So the only way to get back is to go on a time trapsing adventure with a Ordos Chronus inquisitor in a time travelling Rhin-orean.

And the Rhin-orean miscalculates its time and ends up landing on LV-426...

Let's take this too far: what if the necrons go back in time and stop themselves from discovering the c'tan, preventing the demise of the old ones and the war in the heavens?

Why would they do that? Then they'd never get to be cool metal warriors of doom?

They need to pull a Bender and just sit in a cave until they're back in their own time.

Then there'd be no Necrons in the future to be sent back in time, rendering the whole thing ultimately futile.

Okay, so Ghaz takesmover the galaxy and the Necrons send a dude back in time to kill Ghaz as a boy and then a warboss follows him back in time. Finds ghaz and goes "Ey yah git! Comz wit meh if yah wunu liv!" And Ghaz just punches him in the face... you can use thenold Ghaz model from the 90s.

We will call it... The Orkinator.

I'm not up on my Necron fluff, but have the Necrons ever mentioned the emperor at all in their background?

I think the only one that would be interested is Trazyn. But more for the fact that the emps' is a one off collectable, slightly worn and rough to look at, but age has only appreciated his value.

Orks travelling back in time can be self-defeating.

Sending Ghaz back in time probably means he'd start a Waaaagh! against himself to prove who's the meaner Ork.
