Subject: How would a Moussilon Themed Vampire Army be Composed? (or decomposed.. lol)

I am backing the fireforge games kickstarter forgotten realms or something because I want to get my hands on the Northmen models for use as alternative brettonian peasent bowmen etc. I wasn't really interested in the undead faction but on a second look I thought they might be nice for a Mousillon themed undead army. Any loremasters out there have any suggestions how a Mousillon themed army would be composed? I'm focused on 8th ed books so I would be drawing from the 8th ed Vampire Army Book if I did this.

There's an appendix list for a sylvannian themed army in the 6th vc book. Maybe check that for ideas? They have a bunch of empire soldier types in the army.

I don't have that version in stock at the moment though I do have the 5th ed vamp book. I have scan read it just now for info and there are rules for different bloodlines; it explicity mentions that the Blooddragon bloodlines can be brettonian they can even use the brettonian lance formation. Mousillon are vampire brettonians so that works. There is a lore mention in the 8th book that mousillon have a ton of black knights. I suppose the way to look at is that it is a vamped up brettonian army so take a classic brettonian army and look for vamp equivalents. Peasents > zombies, man at arms > skeletons, foot knights > grave guard, regular knights > black knights, high nobility > bloodknights, other vampires mounted and in full plate. A corpse cart seems sort of appropriate ( bring out yer dead ). Wights work as well. I suppose that much is obvious. Perhaps the question should be is there anything in the vamp book mousillon wouldn't have? Would they have ghouls, vargulfs, necromancers etc or would that be unfluffly?

I guess you could always just do an allied contingent, that would make it as "legal" as possible. Also, since there are no VC archers, you would gain access to Bowmen and claim that they are "mostly dead".

I imagine that it would be standard vampire counts but you get men at arms, bowmen and mounted yeomen added to Core. Crypt ghouls moved to special with Realm Knights and Errant Knights.
Crypthorrors moved to rare.
Ghoul king is forbidden and that should be close enough.

Thanks for the replies chaps. I hadn't thought of using the bret book to be honest, just the vamp book. I was coming at this from the total war warhammer video game and Mousillon is treated there as a full blown vampire faction. Having read more of the tabletop fluff from older armybooks, even taking a peek into a WFRP sourcebook (Barony of the Damned), I see that was something of a big revision.
If I used the bret book as an allied contigent they would be desperate allies. It might be worth it to get bowmen and trebuchet though. I think a mousillon army drawing solely from the vamp book wouldn't be unfluffy because given the taint on mousillon and the fact that vampires can pass for humans it seems like an area ripe for a vampire takeover.
On the other hand it might be fun to write an unofficial armybook (like they do in the Warhammer Armies Project) for mousillon which draws from both the bret and vampire books and the associated lore. A hybrid living and dead army, representing a point halfway through a vampire take over.

As stated, they did an appendix list for Sylvania in the 6th Ed. army book that pulled from Empire AND Vampire Counts units. I'd suggest something along those lines. Bear in mind that the people of Mousillon still followed the Red Duke. There was a campaign pack from 5th Ed that had to do with the Red Duke, and I'm going to go read through that for any ideas. Automatically Appended Next Post: Never mind, that was Aquitaine. I have nothing for Mousillon

In the total war game the Red Duke is the Duke of Mousillon. I have looked through some of the older bret and vamp books (of the ones that I have) and it seems like the Red Duke resurfaced in Mousillon at some point (I can't remember which book hinted that). He was Duke of Aquitane as you say but given he was ousted from there (and killed) centuries ago and mousillon is thick with undead taint and still lacking a Duke since Maldred died it would make sense for him to go there to rebuild his powerbase.
I am leaning towards having Maldred and Malfleur (literally "bad flower" , lol) come back as a vampire double act like a bretonnian version of Vlad and Isabella Carstein. Malfleur is hinted to have been a vampire back when she was "alive" which means Maldred could at some point have been turned too.

Using the 8th ed. book I would go about it by having all vampires mounted in heavy armour or use wights (knights) necromancers be female vampires (damsels), Wraiths and Banshees could just use standard Bret models painted appropriately.
Core units; Zombies and Skeles are just peasants, dire wolves are hunting hounds and I have nothing for Ghouls.
Special; Corspe cart is Grail Reliquary, Grave guard and Black knights, are Knights, spirits and wraith as above, avoid horrors/bats/Vargheist (or maybe hunting hawks for bats?).
Rare; Use the warmachines as Reliquaries, use coach as coach but Brettoniafy it and avoid monsters Blood Knights= Grail knights.
Army composition;
Go heavy on the knightly units and characters and the peasant levy of skeles/zombies whack flur de lys wherever you can, paint it somber reds and blacks. Avoid all monsters or make them rotting Pegasus or hypogriffs. Jobs a good un.

Use end times rules where you can mix TK and VC units.
Add skeleton archers to an otherwise regular VC army, but heavy on the black knights and vampire knights (plus characters). You can even use SSC and make them look trebuchet-y.

Is it just me or is it a bit weird that vampires can't take full plate armour as an option?

I do not find it weird, as I think Sylvania is just that poor.
Nightshroud or Charned Shield with their +1 to armour could count as Full Plate.

Exactly but I find it even weirder that HE dragon armour (best craftsmen bar dwarves) is just heavy armour.
