Hello everyone! I've been playing 40k since 4th ed and I've finally decided to get an eldar army. I bought Wake the Dead and I'm trying to decide where to go from here. Below is the 1850 point list I have come up with. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. My goal is to build one list as a strong core which I can modify in the future depending on opponent. Thanks!

Another Altansar player who likes Asurman and avengers? Next you'll start taking falcons and Wraithlords!
As much as I like wraithguard one unit is probably enough, you could have one with scythes and one with cannons though. Swap out the second unit for some dark reapers or shining spears would probably work best.
I'm not sure you need four serpents, two or three should be plenty. Take two serpents and two fire prisms or maybe crimson hunter exarches instead for more anti tank.

If you're sending in Asurmen, consider giving him a squad or two of Banshees. They tie up units amazingly well, and synergize exquisitely with his aura. Task your Farseer and Spiritseer with supporting him and he *will* wreck faces.

Dropping the Wraithguard nets you 450 points. MSU teams of Banshees are 68 apiece (give the Exarch the Executioner).

That leaves you with 314 points to play with. I would avoid Reapers as Ulthwe as they really rely on the Alaitoc -1 to not get shot off the board turn 1. Consider dropping one Avenger team, adding two MSU Fire Dragon Teams and another Triple cannon Serpent.

If you're going with Asurmen, you might as well go for the full close-in Aspect rush.

Might be worth picking up ten swooping hawks, they're awesome against things like guard or nid chaff. Just don't take them against custodes!

Great advice, thanks people. The reason I wanted Asurmen was for DA support. If he is better used with banshees as a melee meteor I think I will cut him out. Should I scrap the dire avengers entirely and run GD in transports instead? I like the fire dragons for sure. I thought the Wraithguard would be a durable and versatile choice, but perhaps they need to be omitted completely?

Personally I really like asurman to buff my avenger screen, I think they synergise well. Guardians range is too short for me personally, they do work well from deep strike in big blobs though. Rangers are popular but they don't do enough damage for my tastes.
Personally I'd swap out the scythes for a unit of cannons and deep strike them in but both work fine.
I've found a squad of banshees work nicely with fire dragons in a serpent. The dragons jump out and shoot whilst the banshees charge in to try and shut down a counter attack on the dragons. The dragons still do often die but they do attract a lot of firepower. Two squads of each in a pair of serpents led by asurman should be a good combo.
I'd swap out the foot farseer for a pair of warlock skyrunners too personally, the runes of battle powers are awesome too.

Oh, if you're going ulthwe I'd probably take Eldrad. Three powers and very tough to kill. Might be a bit expensive to take him and asurman though...

If you end up with 1 more HQ split him and elite into their own detachment for extra CP. 9 is better than 8 afterall.

So this is where I've landed. I'm stuck between the farseer on a bike or a warlock on a bike and an autarch to run with the asurmen-DA-FD-HB group. I like the deepstrike idea for the wraiths. Thoughts?

You might be able to get away with no support for the spears due to the fire dragons in serpents and hemlock being tempting targets themselves. Or if you run Eldrad you could pick fortune as one of his psychic powers to give the spears a five up feel no pain. I'd recommend doom and executioner for the first two powers of either Eldrad or as the two powers of a normal farseer.
