Radio Dish Dash's latest Kickstarter has just gone live. Including a range of modern American and Russian figures, and a rule set to go along with them aimed at games at skirmish scale and up.

The Kickstarter seeks to cover a platoon each for each Nation, with stretch goals for heavy weapons including Stingers and Kord Machine guns (though still to be determined based on a backer poll) and vehicles like the Stryker and new Russian Bumerang IFV.

So far £5,224 has been pledged of the £7,591 goal. If you're looking for some modern figures compatible with the other big ranges or a competitive rule set from an established company, give these guys a look. Check out the Kickstarter page for more images and some videos discussing the miniatures and rules system if you're interested.

And if modern miniatures are your game, Tiny Terrain Models also have a First Chechen War Kickstarter running for the next few days. With a range of figures which would be suitable both for Eastern European soldiers and insurgent forces to face off against these guys.

As of this morning this Kickstarter's now funded. With the first stretch goal looming at $17,1000 NZ / $11,250 US (experts tell me that's around £750 needed then, ah, I don't understand these monopoly money currencies).

For those interested a preview of the rules system has gone up with an example scenario. It also hints at the setting for the system, a modern NATO intervention in Ukraine, which given my own miniatures focus I'm a bit chuffed about.

I could really go for some of those Russians. I wonder how well they scale with SASM's Spetsnaz?

Ah, I assume you mean the ones here rather than the Chechen War ones.

There's not been any scale shots out yet. Going by their previous range I'd assume that they'd be scaled around the height of Spectre Miniatures stuff, or the figures sculpted by Igor Kaprov which SASM do (Ukrainians etc). I don't have SASM's newest Spetsnaz, but do have the SEALs. Assuming their the same height as their other 3D printed moulds these may come out a titch smaller, as those figures are tall in order to fit the vehicles. However, I can't see these being out of scale with Empress' Russians, which are also a bit tall.

TLDR: if they don't work then the company's shooting themselves in the foot.

The first stretch goal is now passed. With 6 models a side (12 in total) added, representing the Platoon HQ. No images as of yet for how those figures would be equipped.

And another render has been posted of a regular Russian infantryman.

Yeah, I was referring to this guys, not the Chechen War stuff. I know Igor's figures will work with other SASM sculpts. I have some of the Skirmish Sangin Delta Force guys, and they feel a bit weedy compared to some of the other moderns I have. They're absolutely diminutive compared to the FFL guy I got from SASM though. Hopefully these figures will be a bit chunkier than those older Deltas.

They've said that a scale comparison shot is coming once other manufacturer's models become available. Without much frame of reference they look comparable to Spectre Miniature's figures if those are 25mm bases they're on. So shorter than the SASM Spetsnaz, though note noticeably so.

Uh, I hope.

They have also formally clarified that yes, backers can have two of platoons of a single nation rather than one for each. Which seems more realistic for most folk's collections, though perhaps not so for their own logistics (I suppose if they know they need x number of Americans, and x Russians, it may not be as much of an issue though). Regardless, woo, more Russian figures.

That looks like that model has fundamental issues with its proportions. Either in the length of the figures arms, or the weapon. ...Or probably both. Irrespective, at this scale these proportions are workable, though yes, the gun's level of detail is beneath those of the competition, including those who are 3D printing their masters like Spectre or SASM (as do the latter also have figures which have entirely 3D printed masters for their figures too).

We have been asked for a comparison shot of the new miniatures. So from left to right.
Ultracombat Russian miniature, Empress miniature, Tiny Terrain miniature, Sangin miniature and last but not least a Eureka miniature.

As you can see they are a great fit for the majority of miniature ranges out there. We would have liked to have added more but we simply didn't have the miniatures and it was taking too long to get them sent to us. These are also the miniature ranges we exclusively use ourselves. So apologies if you don't see your favourite brand here but I think these cover the vast majority of current ranges.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
And the second stretch goal is now unlocked. Four additional models for each of the Nations - 8 total, representing weapons teams.

As far as just what these teams will be carrying, that's down to the Kickstarter's backers post Kickstarter. If enough folks want a Kord Machine Gun, or an ATGM launcher, then that's what we'll get (personally out of all the offerings in this Kickstarter so far its these which I'm after the most ....other than the Bumerang IFV that is).

Stretch Goal three is down now too. Which adds an additional four man Fireteam a side for both nations.

Meanwhile some images of the painted figures have been shown off.
