The Chosen Of Arioch, The Demon lord of the Void.

These are the personal Chosen warriors of Chaos Lord Arioch, Night Lord Captain Of the Skin-Thieves.

Though, like most Night Lords, The Skin-Thieves despise the worship of anything and religion - especially that of the Warp, their powerful leader, Arioch greedily draws from the Empyrean. This, combined with the curse of seizure-foresight like his Gene-father, Night Haunter, is a monstrously intelligent demon-thing of horrifying power. Despite this, a small few from within the Warband share his embrace of the Warp and have become his Chosen Retinue Of Chaos... however none know Arioch’s true allegiance within the pantheon of the Dark Gods. Some few Skin-Thieves outside of his inner circle have even whispered that he is in league with The Chaos God Malal...

The Chosen Of Arioch...

Since the majority of my marines have the Night Lords conversion kit helmets and Heresy-Era MK III & IV Power Armor - I decided to go with much more traditional Chaos looking armor for these more insane actual warp-worshippers. For this I went with the older early 3rd edition era chaos marines for this with arms from modern kits, but stuck with my green stuffed flayed Flesh like the rest of my collection.

Renegade Captain Arioch, Champion Of Chaos and Lord Of the Skin-Thieves...

Now, for this guy I used one of the 2 (or 3?) pewter Chaos Terminator Lords from 3rd edition. I’ve always loved this mini in particular and remember him from things like the Fall Of Medusae campaign booklet and some white dwarf battle reports. A major things I wanted to achieve was making Arioch look like a distant echo of the men he leads. Since he and his Chosen are the only truly devoted I wanted him to kind of embody a Demon-Thing’ within the night Lords legion - Warped and possessed, but more by the standards of the IIIV Legion. I even went so far as to try and mimic the design of Horus’ red glowing gorget from Adrian Smith’s amazing and iconic artwork depicting Him facing the Emperor. I also wanted him to seem more like a “Warp death machine” with the chain-bayonet Bolter and arm cannon (which I THINK was supposed to represent the old “Kai-gun” weapon chaos marines had in their 3.5 codex, though it also looks a bit like a traitor plasma-cannon.) I also sculpted a Flayed Skin mask, like many of the Warbands marines. I added a few other things; like the flayed & mutilated human on his back and sculpted his fur-pelt...

Here’s a couple WIP pictures;

Well, thanks for checking them out!

@Boss Salvage: ‘chunk’ is an understatement! This guy is heavy lmao. Thank you though! Yeah I’ve only ever seen this guy once many years ago when I first started 40k around 4th edition - the normal stuff mounted on his terminator armor was a bit too much for me too and honestly, the more I look at the Kai-Gun the more I’m glad I stuck with such a unique weapon. (I’m not sure how I’ll represent it, but my group is very lenient on proxies so I’m not too worried - though I’m thinking a combi-gun & Chainfist is a good route). I was also a bit worried about the glow effect (this was a bit of a leap for me as I’ve never done it in this fashion before, but I really wanted to mimic the look Horus has during the Heresy.

@darkstar6783: Thank you! I’ve always had a soft spot for the 2nd edition Chaos marines (and imperials too for that matter) and don’t worry, I plan on taking out the whole collection for a photo soon!
