Another old Ork conversion for Warhammer 40000 - an Ork Mek with a Kustom Force Field. Way back in the dim, dark depths of early 5th edition, there was no official model for the KFF, so I decided to try my hand at coming up with something suitable wild and impractical-looking... Converted from the Assault on Black Reach starter set Warboss with various assorted gubbins, some guitar wire, and the KFF made from plastic tubing, thin copper wire and a few plastic beads.

What self-respecting ork is going to use his power klaw arm to hold a defensive item?

Seriously though, looks good

He doesn't have a power klaw, just a bionic hand

Still scratching my 'ead as to why KFF big meks are no longer in the codex.

I mean, they made a finecast KFF big mek. I know. I have 2.

They're in the index, but index units are probably not going to last into the next edition.

Lack of a plastic model would be the likely reason. That's been the pattern lately.

Is the gun barrel a drill bit, or it that just painted to that affect?

There's a gun barrel, and a drill bit...

No current model == no rules in a codex

leaves a nice gap for a "new" model at some point in the future with rules in a further expansion of some sort

that is a seriously nice conversion though

Great Big Mek!

Kustom Force Field looks unique!

I like the drill gun blasta!

Cool conversion and effect on the KFF. Feel like the metal could do with a bit more contrast or variation to break it up a bit.

Yeah, the painting is a little basic, as the army was originally started on a whim just to use up a bunch of old models I had picked up second hand... Was basically just a 'spray them black, quick drybrush of grey over the cloth, heavy drybrush of boltgun metal over the metal bits, paint the skin and call it done. I put a little more effort into the characters and special models, but the basic colouring was more or less the same.

If I get bored enough one day, I may go back and touch them up a bit... Even just running a Strong Tone wash over the metal would help them considerably.
