So. For those of you who don't know years and years ago, way back in the dark ages of 1995. Games Workshop had its first ever world wide 40k campaign.
The campaign turned out to be much, much bigger than they were expecting and Jervis Johnson was snowed under with letters, but since then all details of it have been lost to the mists of time. I was trawling though some old white dwarves of mine and came across the campaigns write up, so I've scanned some copies of the pages its on and compile a PDF of them here:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gt1u5WrEQ9uwARi9KqzMSFtyFGw42KdN/view?usp=sharing

Its way back in Second Edition when Johnson had hair and makes for an interesting read.

Just to point out that if you had a look at that PDF within about 2 hours of me posting it, I had to upload another copy cause I realized that I hadn't included the stuff from white dwarf 192. Also, I did a quick calculation and according to the official stats (there were probably quite a lot more that didn't make the deadline) there were 892 battles fought in the Ichar IV campaign. As for your post. Personally, I love the old Tyranid Warrior model. It had exposed tendons and everything, I still have 1 I use as a warrior prime for an old Tyranid army of mine.

I have a folder of maybe 300-400 white dwarf PDFs...I enjoy going through them. There is definitely an up and down as far as quality and enjoyment goes though. Some big dips and some real great times.

Indeed. Even in the relatively new volumes there were some great articles buried under the "buy buy buy" ads. Like the Stompa apocalypse with ~10 players, each with a hidden agenda, overarching commanders flinging orders at other generals on other tables and general hilarity ensuing.

#ConvertEverything blog with loyalist Death Guard in true and Epic scales. Also Titans and killer robots! C&C welcome.

A couple of my personal favorites are the apocalypse release one and the white dwarf 300 and something that featured a custom build skitari army (a long, long time before AM had a codex, it used imperial guard rules with the bionics army rule and a tech preist as the elite but no hq) vs a massive custom build tyranid monstrocity on an ice planet. Of course you also gotta love all those White Dwarves that came with free models.

So you like the old Warriors? I've got just the thing for you!
Spoiler:
Project log in my sig. I haven't updated it in a while but I have another batch coming up.

The presentation for Tyranids was pretty epic in 2nd Ed, but man, some of those models were real hit or miss. The Tyrant was awesome. The Zoanthrope and metal Warriors though. . .

Lovely!

The old 1st edition Tyranids - that Warrior, the Screamer-Killer and the two hunter-slayers - are pretty nice. Most of the 2nd edition additions are fine, but the Warriors were a bit goofy. In fact, I think that style of Warrior in your pic there is the best they've done.

I'm curious though, who here actually played in this campaign?

I think I posted in some results. It was a campaign not a tournament. So long ago I couldn’t say for sure.
