Sorry my phone wouldn't post...

This is what I wanted to say:

Hi guys,

Strange question but:

I have a few models already (Currently building them up) all space wolves. But I don't have the rule book. I was planning on getting the dark imperium box for Christmas with the space wolves codex and some wolves upgrade spruse.

Someone I am going to be playing a few beginner games with suggested that I don't need the rule book as the box sets come with rulr cards so the codex would be enough and as I'm playing wolves the tooth and claw box would be better.

What do you guys think. I feel the dark imperium box is better value especially for the space marines side. I'm probably going to sell the extra models so I could use the money from the death guard to buy the dreadnaught and haldor icepelt as I've seen the spruse for these on eBay.

Any in put greatly appreciated.

You can download the core rules for free from GW so he/she is right in that the rulebook is not a necessity at this point.

I think the Dark Imperium is better value too and if you can get someone else to buy it at the same time and you swap your Death Guard for their Marines, it's even better.

All 'crimes' should be treasured if they bring you pleasure somehow.

Thanks. This was my thought. Just because I don't need it doesn't necessarily make the other better. Thanks.

The rulebook is, IMO, worth having just for the sake of having it anyway. There's a lot more to it than just the rules.

Yeah I agree. Especially given how new I am I think I would get a lot from it.

You should get both and sell the DG and genestealers. You should be able to recoup some £.

Primaris are pretty bad for wolves they don't out perform any classic units.

I say tooth and claw.

For starters all the models are the full kits as opposed to push fit like dark Imperium. Plus unique Lt.

On the flip side you do not get the Gravis Cpt. Or the Banner bearer.

I'll second tooth and claw, it's MOSTLY the same stuff save some non unique stuff that you'll proably end up not using, except you get aggressors instead of inceptors, which are just a PAIN due to their flight stand.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

T&C has slightly better models (rules wise). DI has the core rulebook. Neither of them contain a mix of models that a hypothetical Space Wolves tournament list would rush to buy at their ordinary retail price.

They don't even have the rules, I seriously doubt they're looking to jump straight into ITC.

So the rules have a lot of the background fluff, if you are into it, and scenarios. The codex is the meat of your army though.

None of the wolves players I know, myself included are into Primaris in their wolves. I bought Haldor because I thought he would be fun converting but that's it.

Honestly, your money is better spent on wulfen, a couple devestator boxes and maybe an upgrade sprue to make some long fangs(devestator have more of the heavy weapon bitz to make full squads of lascannons or missile launchers), or, if you need an HQ, the almighty Bjorn.

Grey Hunters are pretty awesome troops and are super easy to find cheap from split SC boxes. Definitely make yourself a jump pack wolf Lord with Storm shield and Thunder hammer(this is where my Haldor went). Rune priests are very strong right now.

I will say that I find Tooth and Claw a bit better, but that's because I just decided to start an allied DA detachment for shenanigans and the aggressors are part of it.

Get both, and you'll have a pretty decent starter army going. Roughly 1500 points or so (ballpark estimate). Enough troops for a Battalion, and enough Elites to also take a Vanguard detachment. Now, it won't be anything that'll win a tournament, but it'll be plenty for starting out, plus Primaris are not terribly hard to paint compared to a lot of the other Space Wolves kits.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

But on the other side of the wolf, you get a free upgrade kit mixed in for upgrading Primaris models to be Space Wolves instead of generic models.

Dark Imperium has the actual rulebook and Death Guard will probably net a better price on Ebay than GSC.

Thanks everyone. A lot of different reasons and ideas.

Don't know if what I have already (not fully built) makes a difference to which is worth getting but I already have two wolf pack boxes probably going to be used as grey hunters, Logan grimnar on stormrider but I'll magnetize so he can come off on his own, A drop pod, a dreadnaught, a rune priest and ulrik. I know this is a bit of a strange mix. Whilst getting started I decided just to buy what I liked the look of.

Scenarios are super bad though. If you want scenarios chapter approved book is much better. Pretty much only thing RB has of value is the standard deployment maps but for that everybody doesn't need to own book.

I actually didn't realise they were just push fit monopose... I'm magnetizing everything to have full loadout options so this would probably annoy me.

I dunno - GSC book is coming out soon, which will amp up purchases.

I've got to ask, is your name a mythology reference, stargate reference or something else?

With the long fangs idea would I just use the devastator squad and add the shoulders etc from the upgrade sprite?
