Morning!

So I can't get down GW for a few days and I really wanted the Ork codex. So far most of my book purchases have been physical, but I did pick up Malign Sorcery and one of the Imperial Armor books as an ePub and found them to be okay.

I have an iPad pro so I thought, you know what, i'll get the enhanced edition of the Ork codex. I already knew that I am locking myself into a proprietary format and marketplace, but I'd give it a go.

There are a few cool features such as being able to click the Icon on the top left of a datasheet to show points, but other than that...

  • Everything is a pop up! Every skill, every weapon. The datasheets have been designed to fit on a page, so just show me everything! Its worse than just reading a datasheet. Stuff like Dakka Dakka Dakka and other USR-type army abailities is fine, but otherwise having to click on everything for a tiny pop up that i then have to scroll through sucks.

  • Strategems are pop ups?! The strategem page is all the fluff descriptions for the strategems and then you have to click each one to read the abilities

  • The contents page is clunkier and more cluttered than a regular contents page. It took me a while to even figure out that I had to swipe sideways to get different sections

  • So overall, I now feel like I have paid extra to have something that is more annoying to read than a scanned pirated PDF.

I'm gonna try get a refund, but I am not owed one, its my own fault for not trying the sample.

Just thought I'd see if anyone else thinks they suck? Maybe I'm missing something that allows me to display all abilities? Also maybe warn people who are wondering whether they are worth it.

Yes, the GW epubs are unusable and total garbage. We've known this for over a year now. The fact GW still has the nerve to charge people for their books that are now more errata than book is disgusting. To provide them in a format that is literally unusable is also disgusting.

Only reason I still even buy them is because I learned how to convert XML to PDF just so I could read my damn books.

Funny thing, a guy at my store buys his digital codex, and then prints them out and laminates them. And it works really well too, he even can add stuff like wound markers on unit data cards, so they can be easily assigned and them erased post game.

If you have to kill, then kill in the best manner. If you slaughter, then slaughter in the best manner. Let one of you sharpen his knife so his animal feels no pain.
