The plan. Take a regular contemptor and make one of the right gun arms a left gun arm. Put a terminator missile pod on top. Pimp it up with spare venerable parts. Call it a relic contemptor. Doesnt feel like it should be too hard. Any one done anything similar or can think of some thing I should be aware of?

It's pretty easy...just be warned the Contemptor is a completely gak plastic kit. boring, and terribly posed. Takes some work to make it look good.

im doing somthing simular for a Dark Angels project. Im using an Adeptus Custodes contemptor as a base. The Galatus type (sword and shield). I Have discarded the shield, in its place is a twin-linked heavy flamer i made from 2 terminator flamers and some greenstuff. I removed the centre eagle part of the chestplate and replaced it with a sword and other replacemnets with bits of DA iconography. Things to be aware of? Hmm. Be patient. Don't rush. Be methodical ..and..err.. My Dremel tool has been very useful.

I magnatised the arms on mine and adjusted his pose little.

If you're only planning on swapping one gun of the onto the left arm, i'd say cut up the multi-melta. I think it looks better on the left arm then the assault cannon. YMMV.

Using a hobby saw, I cut on the plain round section just underneath the shoulder armour. I then glued on a piece of 1mm thick plasticard the same diameter to make up for bulk lost by the sawing.

I basically did the same with the leg. Just remember to cut the correct leg for the desired pose. I cut the wrong leg and now he looks like he's taking an awkward step, rather then smoothly striding forward
For added dynamism, once you've cut a leg off, you actually have easy access to the waist joint, which can be modified in the exact same way as the arms/legs. I didn't think of doing that at the time and only realised after i'd glued him together.

So with a few cuts and a bit of plasticard, you can turn a very stiff looking model into one with a decent amount of movement.

It's quite easy I've done the same thing. The terminator missile launcher fits perfectly, you just need to trim the bottom down slightly to match the curve of the upper carapace. Like someone said above me, I used a plasticard tube that matched the size of the joint between the weapon and the arm. But you really don't need much, try to trim it down quite a lot to match the other side.
