Hello,
Will be playing with Cron C'tan powers for the first time this weekend. I understand that you can either roll for powers, or assign them. If the latter, you must select all powers before duplicating.

Is that the same for all models?

Specifically, if I optimize powers for a Vault, can I roll powers for another Shard? Or do I need to continue the same selection method across my forces?

Thanks!

Is that the same for all models?

From page 113 of Codex Necrons:

Before the battle, generate Powers of the C’tan for each C’TAN SHARD unit using the table below. Roll a D6 to generate their powers randomly (re-rolling any duplicate results). Before the battle, you can instead choose the powers each of these units have, but if you do this you cannot choose a power for a second time until all six have been chosen once each (similarly, you cannot choose a power for a third time until all six have been chosen twice each, and so on).

The wording in the codex would suggest that you would use the same method of generating powers for all models in the army.

Ghaz has it correct. Unlike Drew Carey's Combat Drugs, you cannot mix and match methods, it's one or the other for all models. Once I am off mobile I'll see if I can link the previous thread on this matter.

Edit: Threads about Combat Drugs and why you can mix and match: Here and Here

Edit 2: Thread I started about C'tan Powers and why you can't mix and match, with the usual "Omg how dare you play by the rules how dare you " silliness and no counterarguments to the contrary here.

RAW, C'TAN powers dont work. GW fethed up the codex, and they didnt fix it in the necron FAQ, nor in the big FAQ 2. Check out this pic.

Spoiler:

All C'TAN units look like this. Notice the problem ? This datasheet doesnt have the C'TAN SHARD keyword, which is required to use C'TAN SHARD powers. Its C'TAN SHARDS instead.

Also, you could play an army of C'TAN SHARDS, because its a faction keyword. It wouldnt be NECRONS. C'TAN SHARD, without S at the end, should be a keyword, not a faction keyword.

GW has shown that plurals of keywords are interchangeable by using CHARACTERS or BIKERS for example. That's not RaW being broken, that's just how English works.
