Subject: Leviathan Dreadnought...seeking advice.

Simply put is there any point in A. running a leviathan dreadnought? and B. does it need a delivery system?
I currently run a small Blood Angels DC detachment backed up by an Adeptus Mechanicus gunline. However I'd like to start investing more into the marines.
Being a long time fan of dreadnought naturally led me to the Leviathan. Preferably an all close combat Leviathan to match the assault nature of the Blood angels and to maximize on the Red Thirst ability.
I'm just stuck wondering if its the points are worth it, and if so can I reliably walk it across the table? Or do I need a delivery system such as the Lucius Dreadnought Drop pod?
My current play group is mostly chaos oriented and i'm not looking for something very competitive.
Thanks for all the replies!
-Austin

Leviathan Dread is the most powerful non-LoW unit for Space Marines of all kind (including SW, BA, DW and even Chaos Space Marines of all kind).
The best built of Leviathan would be the two autocannon arrays loadout (different names in Imperial and Chaos army)
Generally I would not recommend the close combat loadout for BA Levithan, you basically wound everything up to IK on 2s anyway, so the +1 to wound is wasted. Load it in shooting configuration allows you to soften the problematic targets like Magnus, Mortarion, Imperial Kinghts and the like before your jumpping assault units moves in to kill.

Don't worry about a Drop Pod, just load up with a couple of Stormcannons and you're doing it right. Keep him near some aura effects to help the wound get through. Don't bother with CC options; while he could have a go at a Knight he only has 4 attacks so could get bogged down quite easily.

Prior to IKs, I would have voted for dual storm cannons on the Leviathan. If you are still running mono-Marines then I would say that is still the best build for him.
But as a weight-of-fire unit, Helverins are pretty good in the same role and you can get 2 of them for the price of a Leviathan. Not quite as many shots but they are 3D rather than 2D, have triple the range and you get more wounds between the two models.
Of course the Levaithan can be buffed by your SM characters so it is swings and roundabouts really.
If you want a BA melee dread to kill Knights then a Libby Dread with Wings of Sanguinius, Quickening and possibly Artisan of War will be a much more reliable threat to large targets (especially if you add Red Rampage).

Contemptor is also a great shout for a CC dread - S14 -4 4D, hitting on 2s rerolling 1s natively is a great tank-wrecker, and can take a couple of nice little guns too.
The Leviathan is all about guns, unfortunately, especially for BA. And this means he's better in other chapters - DW, RG, UM, even IFs.

A double fist Relic Contemptor comes in at about 190, has a 9" move and built in reroll 1s.

Dakka lolviathans for dark angels, naturally re rolling those misses, though a doredo is better for the cost.

I haven't used them as loyalist, but the chaos ones are pretty much the same.
I have 3 of them, 2 with double melee, one with double grav flux.
The grav leviathans are amazing. They're not like the butcher/storm cannon leviathans which are solid against everything, instead the grav is great vs large squads or vehicles.
I've had it erase primaris squads in a single grav volley, or heavily damage knights.
The melee ones are fun, but not as good. They have decent dakka with 2 melta guns and 2 heavy flamers (bad firepower for the price, but I've had it kill stuff) but anything they touch dies.

The loyalist one is even better than the Chaos one due to having 4 more shots and having a 4++ instead of a 5++.

Leviathans are simply one of the best ways for most power armoured marine armies to remain competitive IMHO. They are such an amazing unit even when considering the semi high points cost.
If you're not looking to be super gamey and you're trying to stay 'friendly' then I would consider a storm cannon and a fist. Melee to fit with your blood angels narrative and a storm cannon because 10 S7 ap-2 2 damage shots is just tooooooo good to pass up.
If you magnetise, and they're quite easy to do that with, then you can buy the weapon options separately and then you'll be able to swap load outs as you see fit.

Personally I'd imagine triple storm cannon Leviathans with a good screen would be a force to be reckoned with at any competitive event. Maybe not quite top tables material but possibly on par with gatekeeper lists like triple baneblades.

Agree. I've seen dual ones do very very well. It is an interesting concept.

I'm interested to know if a dakka leviathan would work well with the new Imperial Fist formation. Mortal wounds on 6s seems good with that many shots.
