I'd like some tips on doing a metallic black. I was thinking of painting my necron deathmarks in metallic black just to do the ominous thing.

The company "Scale 75" has a colour named "Black Metal" in their stock. It's a metallic black. You could give it a try.

Vallejo Metal Color 'Steel' is pretty much a metallic black.

A little bit of righteous anger now and then is good, actually. Don't trust a person who never gets angry.

I mixed leadbelcher and a small quantity of black until I got a good color.

Warcolors out of Cyprus has a Mettalic black of good quality. I use it as the basecoat for my dark metals and highlight with gunmetal and accent with Silver, works well.

Sometimes, you just gotta take something cause the model is freakin cool...

I'm not sure if I'd call it a metallic black, but it's pretty dark. Here's a WIP where all the visible metallics are straight Steel. Note that this is Vallejo Metal Color, not Vallejo Model Color.

A basecoat of Steel, quick highlights of a lighter metallic, and a black wash would probably give you the effect you're looking for.

Vallejo Model Air Black Metal 71.073 works great as Black Metal for me. I apply black primer, then Black Metal, then use a bright Metal Colour applied as a zenital highlight. Makes the Metal part look very similar to an already shaded bit and avoids having black primer or shiny metal in the shadow areas of a model.

A more outside the box technique would be to basecoat black, then rub soft graphite pencils over the top. Use harder grades where your highlights will be.

The edge of this model's base is done in this color.

I'd recommend Reaper's Blackened Steel as a highlight.

I got a pretty decent metallic black for my deathwatch with Vallejo steel, washed black, drybrushed silver, then washed black again. Would be easy to replicate on necrons.
