Title says it all. I am struggling for base colors for my Ulthwe army. The old shiny black with Bone highlights. Seems any color I pick highlights one of those two and the other disappears into it. Suggestions ideas? My contrast color (gems etc) is blood red. The real issue I have is the legs (and majority of model) are shiny black (knee pads bone etc) and they fade into base very easy. Tried a granite style base which made the black pop more but the bone faded, a darker base seems to make the black fade. I am debating some sort of Alien planet foliage like a chartreuse or something, but that seems desperate.

First question: Do you have the Citadel Paint App? Might sound dumb, but there's handy basing 'themes' in there.

Second: Have you looked at the Texture Paints that GW sells?

Stirland or Astrogranite with a bit of Valhallan Blizzard might be a good call for you. A bit of snow can help break up the Ulthwe colors compared to the base.

The snow Idea might be best. I've been avoiding it because I already have a snow based army. It does seem lighter colors is the way to go

Or Martian ironcrust would give you a contrast for the black legs and lighter bone.
