The Marine Standing Behind Marneus Calgar

Upstate, New York

For 2k it doesn’t look like a lot of firepower.

You have one dev squad, and then a lot of snipers fishing for MWs and the Libs spamming.

Is it worth Guiliman to buff that? It seems most of your work is going to be done by the Libs.

There are not a lot of troops to move forward, so you might have some trouble on objectives. Or shielding the characters. Sure, you can forward deploy the snipers, but then they are static.

Might be worth keeping some with just bolters as mobile screens.

Yeah, it does look flimsy at first glance. You actually end up with a lot of mortal wounds with this list though.

Firepower listed out is:

30 snipers + telion
2 missle launchers
2 heavy bolters

9 twin boltguns
6 storm bolters
6 shotguns

Roboute's gun
9 bolters
3 smites

First turn im gonna get 3d3 mortal wounds from heavy weapon strats + cherub and probably 3d3 from the smiting. Snipers should dish out another 5/6 MW as well if all in reroll range.

With the 3 fist captains coming down later though, and the bikes+libby's i actually have alot more mobility than expected.

Does anyone have experience againgst a similar list?

ADDIN: you could drop the dev squad to put one heavy weapon in all 6 scout squads to gain 2 extra heavy weapons. This would increase threat saturation but also be trading out 7 3+ saves for 6 4+ saves so not sure which is better.

Played againgst Necrons yesterday with this list.

He had:

Monolith
Deciever
Overlord/ res orb
Cryptech/w phase shifter
Destroyer lord/w cloak

Squad of destroyers with 1 heavy

20 man warriors
19 man warriors
9 man immortals with tesla
Triarch stalker

Mission was combination of relic and Capture the flag.

He only rolled a 1 for decievers redeploy, so he stuck the monolith to block LOS from my snipers to basically his whole army.

In responce i killed the monolith on turn one with all my shooting. Moved my bikerstar up the opposite flank.

His turn one had him using his cloak and bringing up the 20 man warrior squad to grab the relic and get mostly into rapid fire range of my snipers. His destroyers moved around to shoot my bikes. His deciever moved up to attempt and mortal wound bomb my sniperstar.

He ended up killing one squad of scout bikers and leaving just the searg of the other squad. He also wiped out 2 squads of scouts and reduced another squad to just the searg after he charged in with the warriors (bringing his warrior squad almost on top of my flag). He only managed to kill 1 of the spare devestators though so my heavy weapons were spared.

Turn 2 saw me preparing to wipe his 20 man warrior squad off the table while still trowing as many sniper shots as i could at his deceiver. My libriarians moved up to kill the destroyers, and my 3 captains dropped in behind his stalker to take his flag (1 a bit to the side to charge the immortals). After shooting i had only put 1 wound on the deceiver (bad luck) and dropped a few destroyers. Then came a rough charge phase. My buffed up librarian took 3 wounds from overwatch going into the destroyers and the captain that charged the tesla immortals died on the way in taking 5 failed armor saves and a failed reroll. Guilliman mopped up most of the warriors with the help of the few scouts i had sent in but 1 remained alive!!

The other 2 captains charged the stalker, one failing and the other taking 2 wounds while only dealing out 2 in return. The libriarians failed to finish off the destroyer squad, leaving the heavy alive with 2 wounds. Rough turn for me.

He auto passed morale on the warrior squad, and on his turn saw 7 get back up, falling them back to stand between guillaman and his destroyer lord (who had the relic). His deceiver turned around to go after the jpack captains who were threatening his flag and he moved up his other warriors and retreated with the heavy destroyer (though he failed to get any of them back up). His tesla immortals, emblazoned by frying the captain who charged them, moved into positions to try and erradicate the librarians coming around their flank. After a fairly mild shooting phase, i had only lost one of the libbies and the final scout biker, along with one other sniper scout and devestator marine.

Turn 3 had me run guilliman up, forgoing my buff bubble to ensure i wiped out the warrior squad and possibly the destroyer lord as well. My libbies hugged cover and advanced towards the immmortals as well. The second captain picked up his flag and was also into position to double up on the stalker and free up his brother, knowing they didnt have time to hang back while the deceiver moved towards them. Shooting had the deciever take a few more sniper wounds and 6 immortals go down to bolter fire along with the warriors being wiped out from HB's and frag missles from the dev squad. RG charged and pooned the destroyer lord, though he now stood in range to be gaussed by warriors and the libriarians actually managed to charge the overlord, who had been screened by the now dead immortals. I picked up the kill, taking his warlord out and took out the stalker as well, but in a twist it exploded, finishing off the injured captain.

He started his turn rolling up res protocols and bringing the immortals all back save for 1 with the help of the cryptek. Things were looking dicey, though, as I had him surrounded and Robby G was charging towards him and had the relic in hand. With almost no chance to capture my flag, he had to bring the big man down and take out the captain who had his flag. He prepared to fire everything at RG and move his deceiver into range to charge the captain. His immortals once again took up their tesla in an attempt to remove the threat to his flank. Shooting had me loose my full health BA libby and bring Robby G down to 1 single wound. He also failed to deal any wounds to the jpack captain with his powers. He charged his warriors in to try and finish off the big man, only to find that without buff's, a pack of warriors just wont cut it againgst T6 2+ save. He ended up loosing 8 warriors for his folly. He did however at least claim hold of the relic.

Turn 4 had me advance all my remaining devestators and scouts down from their position in order to run to the aide of their primarch. I also fearlessly brought my jpack captain forward to charge his Deceiver. The final librarian moved up to hopefully buff his captain and take out some immortals. After psychic phase and shooting, 3 immortals remained and the captain decided to try and wipe out the squad rather than go up againgst the ghastly Deceiver. With the help of the libriarian they succeeded, ending their threat. Guillaman once again ended the life of 6 more warriors, bringing them down to a measly 5 remaining, of which they could not put a scratch on his armor. The game was looking like a win for the space marines.

At this point my opponent conceded. Having only a cryptech and the deceiver with 2 wounds left. Even if he got 7 warriors back it wouldn't have mattered as all the scouts and devestators would have been in charge range and it would have just took a half decent smite to kill his deceiver.

I like the list, but I can definitely see how dropping some of the smash captains for more heavy weapons is probably a good idea.
