My latest project is a Killteam of Scouts and Primaris, and I want to go with a modern desert uniform color scheme. Not necessarily a camouflage pattern (but some of my scouts have Camo Cloaks, so I will have to do that eventually).

The 2 main Desert tan/yellow sections will be the Armor Plate, and the cloth uniform.

Using what I have on hand, I was thinking for the armor plates, a base of Averland Sunset (too yellow?), Zamestri Dust, and Ushabati highlights. For the cloth uniform, Steel Legion Drab, Baneblade Brown, and Tallarn Sand highlights.

Am I on the right track? Anyone else have a better color guide? Should I maybe flip the cloth and plate schemes, deeper yellows on the cloth, and a lighter tan on the plates?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

In my opinion Averland Sunset would be too yellow. I would stick more to green and brown colors for camouflage, even for desert colors. Pulling off a Coyote Tan type color would look pretty good. You might want to consider looking at some Vallejo Model Color paints as they are designed for this type of task. I'm sure they have desert tan camo colors.

you can mix a khaki colour using your yellow, brown and a little white. pure yellow is too stark a colour for a desert base. personally, if you want a realistic scheme, you would have some sort of disruptive pattern on the solid plates (which would need it to break up their shape and shine) and then contrast that with a plain colour cloak maybe?

I would use Zandri base color, ubshati bone, the screaming skull.

Balor Brown, zemsi desert and Tau light ochre.

I suggest you look at DAK paint schemes. Historics Ww2 and DAK flames of war or bolt action.
