OK there's been a lot of talk about how the primaris are way too much of a deus ex machina move that isn't consistent with the back gel nd and for a while I had issues with it too. I finally took a dive into the fluffpool and found a way to accept it as part of 40k.

I kinda like alpha legion just for their mystique. Are they against he imperium or for it? Are they fighting to help the chaos traitors or to undermine them from within? Is "for the emperor" a mockery or is it sincere?

Part of the AL background is the fact their primarchs were shown a prophecy and convicted fed it was true. Either they stayed loyal and helped the emperor which meant the emperor would be mortally sou red, encased in the golden throne and humanity would stagnate for millennia and finally be consumed by chaos as it decayed and atrophied, at which point chaos, flutter with power from consuming humanity, would overrun the galaxy and destroy all of it or the AL would side with Horus who would destroy the emperors rise to daemonhood and then consign all humanity to chaos within a century.

Either way humanity died but the first way let chaos destroy the whole galaxy, the second effectively crippled chaos and saved the rest of the galaxy from it.

Some say alpharius chose the first option because be believed the emperor would rather the rest of the galaxy be spared if humanity was doomed in either event. We know that the AL apparently tog sided with chaos and yet the prophecy did not come to pass the way it was told. Horus did nit become a daemon, was destroyed and the emperor still ended up in the golden throne, but humanity has stagnated under the imperium for 10,000 hears.

So maybe alpharius decided to see to it neither prophecy came true? He sided with humanity surviving and seeming to stagnate for 10,000 years but also saw to it that at the moment when it seemed the prophecy was come to pass and chaos consumed humanity, there was a little surprise waiting for them instead.

So if we accept the prophecy the cabal showed alpharius and that alpharius accepted what he was shown as true, he may are decided to let it seem like it was happening as prophesied, but to change the ending of the prophecy by helping see to it the primaris would be there to upset the prophecy?

Or maybe eldrad got to alpharius after he was shown the cabal prophecy and offered him a chance to change it. This seems to make since since an eldar, Yvraine, helped bring Guilleman (see? I can spell it right) back, it kind of puts the imperium's supreme commander in a situation where he might not want to see the eldar destroyed and even accept co existence with the arrogant sh-ts after chaos is defeated.

So I can see the nee primaris stuff as acceptable if alpharius was shown the "humanity is xxxxed either way" prophecy, believed it then either decided on his own to subvert it to save humanity or maybe eldrad got to him and offered a way to safe humanity in a way that also helped the eldar.

Yeah, so now I can live with the new primaris fluff. The cabal prophecy made it look like chaos would win either way, either alpharius or alpharius and someone else came up with a plan C to safe humanity and the primaris were established as part of it and kept as an ace in the hole until chaos' final victory seemed to be happening. OK, makes enough sense to accept it now.
