Purestrain genestealers and a few small units of neophytes goes into ambush. The rest deploys on table with broodlords spread out among the neophytes.

The characters does the heavy lifting. Mass of small arms fire to clear screens. Neophytes to soak overwatch and take wounds for the characters. Genestealers harass.

Four major weakness I see with this list are:

1. Your ability to reliably engage anything with FLY

2. Your ability to survive overwatch

3. Your ability to reliably damage TEQ and T8 armor.

4. Your ability to clear screens of anything other than GEQ.

I understand you are trying to maximize threat saturation, but those Genestealers are going to have a tough time getting into combat as 5 man units. I would consider merging them into 3 10 man units instead to address weaknesses 2 and 4. In my experience with Neophytes I can't count on them for any sort of firepower. Only hitting on 4+ with no way to buff them is painful and I usually feel lucky if I can get 2 casualties out of them at rapid fire range. This is going to be a serious problem if you are trying to get those Abominants into combat with enemy armor. Imagine two ranks of Fire Warriors or Necron Immortals standing between you and your target.

Weakness 1 is perhaps the biggest issue though. What would you do if your opponent brings a squadron of Vulture Gunships with twin punisher gatling cannons? They are mowing down Neophytes with 120 shot per round while the best you can do is hit on 5+ or maybe get a couple of smites off. To address this I am actually a pretty big supporter of taking a Fortification detachment with the GSC. They can make the most use out of both the Anti-air firepower and the staying power of embarking our squishy troops to safely hold backfield objectives. If Fortifications aren't your game (I know they aren't for most) I'd use your tryanid allies for some more reliable range.

Thank you so much for your thorough advice!

One plan with the list was to deny any useful targets for anti tank weapons and have neophytes enough to make sure my dangerous units stayed unhurt through two turns of shooting. But I believe you are right on all your points.

Some fortifications is actually a really interesting idea...
I'll meditate over your feedback and rebuild the list.

So here goes a second take.

Center fortification contains Hiveguards and Neurothrope. The other two fortifications contains one broodlord and 9 genestealers each. Ripper Swarms are deployed behind the fortifications ready to take the place of the genestealers. Everything else is in cult ambush and I'll deploy each aberrant with a squad of neophytes that can die for them.

Strong points: Only hard targets presented at deployment. Hiveguard are flexible shooters. Fast genestealers. Several fast and dangerous melee characters.

Weak points: Against an army without flyers the quadguns will only hit on 6s, so the fortifications will only be a protection against my enemy getting turn 1.

1. Flyers. Three vultures would still be a problem, but I should be able to disable one flyer a turn.

2. Overwatch should be less of a problem with larger units of genestealers.

3. Aberrants and broodlords should be able to kill TEQs and T8. Also stealers kill TEQs.

4. Massive screens could still be a problem. Genestealers are a solution, but might not be enough.

I honestly don't know how synapse works with units that are inside fortifications. Does the neurothrope help while it is embarked? Are the embarked hiveguard subject to the synapse rules? If it doesn't matter, i might be able to get rid of the neurothrope.
