On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

Hey folks,

This is the first time in a while that I've posted an item for sale on Dakka, but thought it's a bit different so someone might be interested in taking a look!

It's a Vampire Count army, first built for 6th edition WHFB, although I should imagine would be fairly easy to adapt to other systems.
It's comprised almost entirely of individual conversions of old metal Reiksguard, Bretonnians, Empire soldiery and other historical bits and pieces (am sure some eagle-eyed individuals will spot some obscure bits that I've forgotten I've added!)
Overall I would say I probably spent a couple of hundred hours building and painting the army - probably about half of that was spent hollowing out metal helmets to insert skeletal faces (that was about as much fun as it sounds!)

The army hasn't been used on the field for sometime and has been in storage for some years (which is probably why it has survived more or less intact, and didn't need much of a touch-up to get it ready for sale).
Sadly a lack of display space, and shortly lack of storage, means that this one is going to be a reluctant sale. Honestly, I'd rather it go to a good home and get some use, rather than staying in a box. It's certainly a unique collection of miniatures, and painted to a reasonable standard.

Some pics and background for the force below. Here is the Ebay listing: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/323575027048
It's listed on ebay UK, but I'd be willing to post internationally.

So without further ado!

The Vampire Count Von Reitenburger, and his undead retinue

As town, hamlet and dwelling fell, so did the following of fresh dead that joined the Count's legion. A favourite of the Necromancer Dessai, her zombie horde was ever growing, a tide of rotting flesh that overwhelmed hastily erected barricades and town militias alike. Cut down by the dozen, the rituals of the following night would swell their ranks with the recently deceased.

These miniatures are a convesion of the GW (OOP) Zombie kit, Empire free soldiery, and numerous other fantasy/historical kits. The chainsaw is from the Blood Bowl secret weapon. The hand is of course a reference to the Adams Family character.

Count Von Reiterberger
Little is known of the past of the Count Von Reiterberger, other than he was once a famous general and swordsman that ruled over a duchy in Eastern Sylvania. Such was his skill with a blade that word travelled far and wide,of his desire to face an adversary that could match his formidable strength. One day an individual answered that call. Upon the first clash of arms the Count knew that he had at last met his match, for the unhealthy palour and lean build belied a strength that far exceeded his own. Smiling all the while, his foe cut him down, but took him in a vampiric embrace before the sum of his lifeblood could stain the soil. Von Reiterberger, now raised as a Vampiric kin, was unable to catch his assailant and killer as he fled laughing into the night. He now leads his undead hordes into battle, retinue guard about him, hoping to one day meet his nemesis and fight him on equal terms.

The miniature is a combination of Chaos Champion and Space Wolf head, with a weapon swap.

Rest of the images in Spoiler tags below:
Spoiler:

The Knight Warriors of Fallenberg followed the myth of the Count Reiterberger across the old world, their oaths allowing them nothing less than the head of the fabled warrior. One day they met the count, and each in turn fell beneath his blade; The youngster Orik, who had yet to reach a score of summers, the flamboyant fencer Demarisk, known as a favourite of the ladies of the Southern Court, and finally the old champion Waldman, whose booming laugh would be heard no more amongst the halls of Fallenburg. Each answered and could not refuse the simple question to join the Count within his household guard, for despite their defeat they had impressed him much with their martial fortitude. Now they ride to battle once more, feeling the fall of foes beneath their blades, and from time to time a fevered half-dream reminds them of the life that once was, but now has been denied to them in undeath.

Spoiler:

The Count, being a martial practitioner of no small bearing, understands the value of armed and armoured ranks within his legion. Thought generally mindless and inept in their prowess as warriors, nonetheless the marching legions of armed and armoured undead give the Count some pleasure in their conformity, as they march past him in the colours of his flag.

These miniatures are a combination of Brettonian men-at-arms and undead.

Spoiler:

Lady Dessai was eldest of her sisters and due to take a duchy to her name once she came of age. Instead, in a long forgotten banquet hall a veiled, fanged smile enchanted her, and drew her into a world of forbidden magiks and eternal life. And most importantly for the Lady Dessai, an eternal beauty, that bewitches those who look upon her and conceals the rotten heart beneath. She travels alongside her consort, the Count Reiterberger, who tolerates her for her incredible beauty, now enshrined, while knowing within the depths of his being that surely he could have picked a more affable partner for their journey through eternity.

The Count's retinue/household guard
Spoiler:

Not all of those held by undeath follow in a mindless fashion. Some of those that held some memory of martial honour, of fevered half-dreams of time spent amongst the living. Such were the Count's household guard. All were once warriors of renown, all were fallen in battle by the Count or his chosen, and all were given a simple choice upon death: Sink into the earth, or rise once again and fight for the Count and his legions. This choice separates them from the rotting horde that marches alongside them; a free will that furthers their prowess in battle and hunger for victory.

These miniatures are a conversion based on the old metal Empire Reiksguard miniatures, with some damage/weathering added. There are numerous skeleton/undead kits interposed.

Wight Champion
Spoiler:

Ernst Klaffenborg was a champion of the Empire's armies under Karl Franz, until the day he met Count Von Reiterberger. The hammer which had swung to-and-fro, cutting great swaths from the Count's legion, was of no match for the preternatural speed of the Count, who cut down the Emporer's Champion with ease. As the man slumped and lay dying, the Count saw the loss in his eyes and offered him a simple choice. One that Klaffenborg agreed to with his dying breath.

This miniature is a combination of Empire Champion and undead component. A little weathering and damage added, but otherwise unchanged.

The Jester
Spoiler:

General Lurz sent each of his champions in turn to die at Count Reiterberger's blade. When the last fell, and the General saw his death approaching, he turned and ran. The count, having little sympathy for cowardice, but nonetheless remembering something of his sense of humour, took the General as his own undying jester, and placed him atop a child's hobby horse where he could continue to lead his soldiery to battle.

This miniature was a Brettonian Jester, the head/hat was sculpted around a skeletal head.

'Raised' Skeletons
Spoiler:

A cheap levy to be raised in the hours before battle, their armour and weapons unearthed alongside them. It mattered not to the Count that these rusted weapons would splinter on enemy armour, or the weak magic bonding their bones was easy to break. Just that they distracted the attention of the foe, so that his elite cavalry or household guard could attack from the flanks.

Haunted Spirits
Spoiler:

It is said that those anguished beyond rational limits, those spirits pushed to such extremes that they lose their sanity, would refuse to leave it when ordained by the passing of their mortal shell. Such were some of the unfortunates encountered by the Count and his rotting men; penitents, prisoners, beggars and beleaguered. Their angry spirits anchored to the undead legion, passing on the anguish that remained with them upon death to the still living.

These miniatures are a mix of Empire flagellants (from both the metal and plastic ranges).
