Hi I just wanted to know how many other players collect more than one space marines chapter.
As am thinking of doing Crimson Firts as my second force.
Ive already started my Ultramarines currently at 1000 points.
Do you think I should ally them in or just start another 2k force?
Btw am a massive lore nerd so if two chapter wouldn’t work together a lot then I would start anothe separate force of Crimson Fists.

The Marine Standing Behind Marneus Calgar

I technically have 3 chapters, but my BA haven’t seen the table since sometime around 3rd edition. Ultramarines and Deathwatch, with the DW being a new addition in the last couple of years, are the other two.
With different chapter tactics, there are some issues with just mixing UM/CF in an army together. Not that you can’t, but you loose a bit of special rules. Even if you field them in seperate detachments as allies, you probably aren’t getting enough benefits from their diversity to make up from not being able to share transports, auras, etc. If you are going for a second chapter, I’d look at ones who can do stuff your first one can’t do as well. Which means probably one of the other codexes.
Marines work together all the time. From a fluff POV, you are OK mixing them. It’s just mechanically you need to ask “why”
Even from a painting standpoint, I’d go with something that scratch a different itch. My second army is Eldar for that reason.
This from and Ultramarine player who would start a Crimson Fists army if I had to do it over again. YMMV.

Assume you will end up with 2 full armies, 1 of each. We all end up that way, and knowing means you can plan for it.
As for the chapters themselves, go home-brew both times if you can. Locking them into UM and CF means you cannot easily wave-away the WYSIWYG issues that can cause.
If you wanted your CF army to be your 8th company (or whatever) for a single tournament as part of your main army, you might get told they're a different chapter, and cannot do that.

Ultramarine Librarian with Freaky Familiar
|
I've got Ultramarines, Deathwatch (which I'm redoing more as a Kill Team, and disusing the older models in that collection), Grey Knights, and a homebrew Chapter descended from Ultras (but not bound to that from a gameplay point).
For narrative and lore, you really don't need to worry. Crimson Fists and Ultramarines should get on well, especially after Guilliman gave the Fists a new influx of Primaris Marines, and personally commended Kantor. They're also both quite rational Chapters, have good civilian and civic relationships and duties, and even live somewhat near, galactically speaking. Plus, considering Guilliman knew Pollux in person, he's actually a lot closer to the Crimson Fists' own founder than any other member of that Chapter.
From a gameplay perspective, you do miss out on some units being able to benefit others, and even as allies, they'll be unable to help eachother on the tabletop as much as if they were "count-as" the same Chapter. However, I personally sacrifice synergy for the sake of having two distinct forces on the table, so YMMV.
Go for it!

Ancient Venerable Dark Angels Dreadnought

I currently have Dark Angels and Deathwatch. I actually wouldn't mind my own chapter of marines or one of the lesser used options, but with so many other projects on my plate, it's not happening anytime soon.
I've hatched out a quick deathwatch force in a mad painting frenzy, but have plenty of bodies leftover, so maybe I will use them to scratch my creative itch my adding unique chapters into the Deathwatch.
Some of my favourite DW models that I have painted have been Crimson Fists so that new army box is tempting, as is going whole hog into Primaris only, knowing that's the future.

for my marines they are all Tiosen Rifles, but there are not actually that many, my CSM however are a mix, the bulk are a custom Thousand Sons offshoot, based on the pre-heresy colours and using C:CSM as the book.
also have a small World Eaters faction and a growing Death Guard one, with some units - e.g. cultists, painted to be usable across all three

Thanks for the feedback.
Eventually I would like to have 2000 points of each so it would be a temporary ally detachment.
It could work out for the Vigilus campaign maybe?

All my marines are my own chapter, so I can swap traits if I feel like it (although that's very rare). I think having a bigger, more flexible army is more rewarding. But that's me.

I currently collect ALL the Chapters. Or at least the ones with rules and/or significant representation: But as for playing them, my sons and I have used the models to play basic intro games only so far. And I only have the Index, so it isn't anything like the "meta" My oldest is working on building up an UM army and my youngest is building up a Salamander army They've got their first tactical units painting and I'll be posting them soon. -

I love blue also love the lore for the Crimson Fists.
I do have a Black Legion force and Adeptus Custodes so I’ve got a few different colours to play with. Automatically Appended Next Post: Galef wrote:I currently collect ALL the Chapters. Or at least the ones with rules and/or significant representation:

That’s awesome eventually I want a Raven Guard and my own chapter as well but that won’t be for a long time as I have my Cutsodes, Black Legion, Crimson Fists and Ultramarines to finish.
