I know warp bolters are an index option which some may consider justification for their inclusion in Battlescribe.

But... could it be argued that the "Daemon Prince of Tzeentch" entry in the Thousand Sons codex is a separate datasheet from the "Daemon Prince" entry and so therefore the Designer's Commentary does not apply? Technically there is no index version of the "Daemon Prince of Tzeentch" datasheet because that is different from the "Daemon Prince" datasheet in the index.

From the Designer's Commentary:

"ARE THERE WARGEAR OPTIONS FOR YOUR

MODEL THAT ONLY APPEAR IN THE INDEX

VERSION OF ITS DATASHEET?"

BRB FAQ 1.3 reads:

Q3) Are the Daemon Prince datasheet from Codex: Chaos

Space Marines, the Daemon Prince of Nurgle datasheet

from Codex: Death Guard, and the Daemon Prince of

Tzeentch datasheet from Codex: Thousand Sons all

considered different datasheets for the purposes of the Organised

Events guidelines?

A3) Yes.

I would say if they are different Datasheets for Rule or 3 purposes, which they definitely are, then they are different Datasheets for purposes of Index options.

In short, no. This is because the Daemon Prince of Tzeentch doesn't have an Index entry to draw wargear options from. If you want a Warp Bolter, you have to use the generic Daemon Prince datasheet from the CSM codex, which cannot be THOUSAND SONS.

The consensus here seems to be the exact opposite of the consensus on Reddit. Sigh...

That's because Reddit is full of people who play RaI, while YMDC tends more towards playing by the rules as written, not rules as we wish were written.

Guess that means I just have to find out if my local scene reads Reddit or Dakka. Thanks for the responses BCB. In general I find your interpretations most convincing but when in Rome...
