I just painted some coils on a plasma weapons blue to try and get a glowing effect and while I feel I got the glowing effect it seems to have made the coils themselves looking kind of dull. I was thinking about putting some gloss paint over them to brighten them back up but was wondering if other know if it would work or just make them look worst?
I'm lazy so I drybrush them heavily with Ceramite White, daub them in a very thinned down light blue, then drybrush Ceramite White back over the top, lightly.
Gloss varnish won't brighten your colours. It depends on the effect you're going for. Do you want the coils to be emitting light? Or for the light to be coming from under the coils? Personally I prefer the latter as it gives you a nice contrast on the coils.
