Hohoho! It's that time of the year, when shovelling snow turns into a good excuse to build some snow sculptures! Anyone up for a challenge, this happy season?

First out, a quick Dwarf head:

And old ones from previous years:

Probably work

I'd love to, but we only got heavy snow once earlier this year, which translates into about two inches, give or take. It sucks because when I was a kid we'd have enough snow to build actual snow tunnels. On the other hand, I just went to the post office today without a coat on, and I'm kind of considering a walk later because it's so nice out. GOOD THING THIS IS NATURAL AND NOTHING BAD WILL COME OF IT.

I'm moving for an area further away from sea level sometime next year, which means I can probably road trip to snow year around. We should do this again next year!

Snow... hmm. I remember that. Our yearly blizzard isn't due for another month yet.

Those are some pretty cool sculptures.
I wish I lived in a place where they get snow. All the snow we get here is a tiny layer of one or two centimeter on one or two days in the year.

Yeah, we only got one snow this season so far. I want more so badly...

Cheers folks, I hope you get your deserved good dose of snow. It's so fun! And we should do this every year.

And then they were two:

Wow, impressive work!! Do you use any tools other than a shovel?

...and now who gets to jump on it

Cheers, folks! I've not counted, but by far most of the time goes to shovel a snow pile together, buildin an ever longer ramp until it's big enough. The sculpting is rather quick.

I only used a shovel, my gloved hands and (for reach) a long rod to to some details. Metal shoehorns can also be used, and various garden tools.

Thaw gets to jump on it!

We don't get snow here in SD, but I imagine you all will understand when I describe how horrid the Christmas weather is today! It's absolutely frigid at sixteen degrees AND it's pouring rain; we've gotten 0.08 cm of rainfall already! Truly, I'm sure you all have better weather.

Ouch! Bad weather for Christmas.

Can you trust an elf?

The icy and lumpy snow made this one tricky, and pulled down the quality drastically, as well as having it end up way too thin. Still, it's a face.

Very nice. Best I can do is a snow angel.

Just not as good as the Dwarfs, but then as an Elf I suppose it never could be!

I'd honestly try and out do your sculptures bUT this winter in Michigan has been the weirdest I've ever seen in my life. There's literally no snow here, I still see my grass, and usually I'm looking at a couple feet of snow.

Damn that global warming! *shakes fist at sky*

Cheers! The snow is currently too frosty and lumpy to be much good for detailwork. It would not have been advisable to attempt teeth with such material:

That is seriously great work. It would be my favorite, but there is no dwarf riding its back.

That's awesome, very nice, also a great idea, but i would have to travel to the top of a volcano to get the closest to snow in any season. ( Which i could do if this thing takes off ) lol

Wow. You still have snow? It is already like summer over here. Yesterday was like 17 degrees and I even got a bit of sunburn.

It is that time of the year! Snow has finally come in droves. Days and days of shovelling and skiing has ensued. Blissful.

Have you considered reading about the Dorset culture (I know you like your history bits) cause I looked at that and immediately thought of this;

I was reading about some Viking related stuff earlier today and saw this image. Your snow lizard immediately made me think of it.
