There two different lines I've seen, Turbo Dorks metal shift paints and Green Stuff World's chameleon line, I'm going to be painting some Swooping Hawks and I'm going for a darker scheme with a pearl like colour shift in the wings. What kind of experience have you had spraying or painting these kinds of paints?

I have used Turbo Dork's Blue Raspberry with good success on my C'tan Nightbringer. It sprayed extremely well through my Iwata Eclipse HP-CS without thinning and came out looking pretty good. Just ensure you follow the recommended primer of gloss black for the best effect. It will take a few coats but well worth it.

Cannot say how well they brush, however I have read it take's more coats to get the same effect. Be advised that the first coat can be hard to notice so be patient.

Most color shifters need a gloss black base.

for Pearl shifting you could do Alcad II Holographic chrome.

though if you spray it over black it becomes metalicly silver with rainbow halos. but it is a laqure based paint and requires an airbrush and sealing. its also very noxious.

you can do it over white though which is what i tried with this

it looks way better in bright sunlight though.

Swords are really tiny to get a true color shift look.

Yup this. Tried and the results are not spectacular. As soon as you have decent surface to work with the magic really shows.

Wings? Maybe if they are big enough. Scourge wings would look awesome with colorshift paint. Swooping Hawks? They are pretty small so not too sure but I will experiment when I reach my Hawks in the painting backlog.

I'd try and paint the colour transition in on such a small area.
