Yes... You read that title correctly. 20th Century Fox apparently came out with a short predator crossover film for the holidays (DVD special feature?). It may actually be better than the recent movie itself!I

WTF is up with Fox and this dvd release?!? Here's another commercial for it. I can't recall any company putting this much creative effort into selling a dvd for an (at best) mediocre movie but I'm not complaining!

They probably still need to make a bunch of money back on it, and while DVD sales used to make up a decent chunk of revenue (especially for this sort of film) that's falling as more and more people stream stuff which doesn't make as much for the studio

so some clever adverts may help sell a bunch more including crucially more hard copies

You know the thing that really annoys me is that if the damn movie had been half as clever as these ads it might have actually been decent.

Just like Into the Spiderverse, these types of commercials are what you get when you allow a group of passionate people to work on something without massive studio oversight.

Can we even say that The Predator was bad because of studio interference? Shane Black made lots of comments over the course of filming and development that reeked of a guy completely disinterested in his work, and it shows in the film imo. I'm fine with blaming the corporate soul suckers for making lifeless products, but I don't think The Predator's dreadfulness can fully be laid at their feet.

The Predator isn't bad because of Fox. Shane Black fethed this thing up. The whole plot is fundamentally flawed with dumb ass gak.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

While there were highlights, they were outnumbered by just plain bad and/or cringey moments. No, it wasn't a failure of studio interference as the "original" version leaked was even more stupid with friendly predators in earth gear working with the humans.

Yeah. "We need more humor", "put in sequel hooks" etc. are studio mandates.

The proof is in the pudding- the movie was pretty okay whenever there weren't Predators onscreen. More then okay actually, it was pretty damn decent when there were no Predators onscreen. The cast was fun and had surprisingly good chemistry, the gags hit well more often then not. If you had that same cast in a film that was a raunchy The Expendables type deal, with lots of ironic, self-depreciating humor, it would have a high possibility of being a good movie. That implies at bare minimum that the director had the chops to make a good movie.

But instead it was a Predator movie, and every time a Predator is onscreen or the characters talk about Predator things or use Predator gear the movie goes to gak.

Eventually people will learn (hopefully) that the only way to make a good Predator movie is to invent a time-machine to transport audiences back to 1987, when the concept was novel and could work. It doesn't work in the modern cinematic climate.

Except predator 2 is pretty good (not great but pretty good) and Predators is full on great. Probably close to equal to the first one. This pile of crap is by far the worst. And no. Its not studio interference that ruined everything. As mentioned above, the original cut of the movie had predators working with the humans driving around in a atv shooting human weapons. Shane blacks original vision for this movie was crap from the start.

Predator sequels seem more hampered by people messing with the original formula, which was near perfect in it's simplicity. I'm sure studios have a hand in that, but I think it's ignoring that The Predator had problems far beyond its eye rolling attempts to lighten the mood and it's groan worthy sequel hook.

I'm not even sure why they bothered reshooting it, cause there's at least 3 different versions of the film that are really obvious in the final product and every single one of them is terrible. If anything it feels like the execs were the only ones who were trying to make something passable and the crew doing the actual work just... sucked.
