I am a death gaurd player and i am sick of seeing people telling others to cheat. In every advice thread you will find someone saying take the helm relic to boost the range of your warlord trait. The problem is the helm does not effect warlord traits, the relic says it boosts the range of auras on the units datasheet and warlord traits are not on the datasheet. When ever anyone points this out people mention a facebook post some gw halfwit said it did work. The problem is random GW staff have been known to make stuff up in the past. Until GW do an FAQ that changes the rules as written then it is cheating plain and simple.
I agree it should work on warlord traits and was probably meant to but as it stands now it just does not.

To be devils advocate here there is a very big difference between cheating and misunderstanding to me. To cheat it requires awareness in that the person knows what they are doing is wrong/incorrect and does it anyway.

This really doesn't seem like cheating at all to me just people misunderstanding/misinterpreting the rules. Its also very far away from game breaking in any way whatsoever; that relic and equivalents are generally considered bad universally and usually don't make it into lists.

If I was brewing a list and this interaction came up I would 100% assume it worked on warlord traits as its very strange it does not in the first place.

Your title is also massive clickbait and your point is just venting(not a discussion, which means you posted as a vent rather then a FYI callout which is what it should be) which imo is actually far more egregious then using the helm to boost warlord traits. (also a higher cheat count; cheating me of my own sanity).

If it was meant to work on warlord traits it would just say extends all the models auras, not all the auras on the models datasheet.

Norway.

Not just a post from "some gw halfwit", it was the official gw 40k channel, and they added that it was certainly how they play it here in the office.

You can easily see how people play that one wrong after seeing that post. And your response is to act like, well like you just did.

If you think it is a problem, email the FAQ address for GW - if you get the question in now, they might clarify it in the Spring FAQ.

Having said that, I'd consider a less aggressive tone than you've used in this post...

You seem like you'd be fun at parties.

It's not cheating as there is a valid argument it does effect warlord traits.

Plus, this is a game with toy soldiers, you might want to chill over a rules interpretation.

Whilst a GW staffer on the website isn't the same as the Errata nor FAQ document, it is a valid argument people can make for how things are supposed to work at times.

This isn't an attempt to cheat, but is instead where people have read an official interpretation of the rules where the rules as written are not conveying what the designers actually intended to be the ruling. An oversight in the system that should be fixed and probably will be. Best to email their FAQ team to get them to confirm.

IT could also be that the staffer is wrong, they are only human and its not like GW staff go on years long courses with tests and approved external examination boards to be GW rules lawyers.

This isn't people wanting to cheat, but instead them taking a positive interpretation of rules from a valid source.

I see no contradiction in both statments. Just because something should be better, doesn't actually mean it is right now. There is a ton of stuff in 8th that make no sense the way they work right now, but that is the set of rules they have and that is it.

In the first quote the poster says they think that GW probably meant it to work on WT.

In the second quote the poster says they don't think GW meant it to work with WT because it would be worded differently.

How do you not see the contradiction in that.

I for one tend to play by intent not verbatim. So I'll continue to use my helm and get the bonus to Arch-Contaminator until I see an FAQ saying otherwise.
