Depends on the theme of your army and character of officer in question.
Some officers wear caps, to denote their rank. Some just choose to wear helmets and looked like the common soldiery.
Some carry pistols, some carry rifles.
But I'd start by just looking at what I had, and the the feel of the army I wanted to make.

For instance my soldiers are in a more modern looking force. Each section has a marksman and a light machinegun. A force which relies heavily on ranged fire. The officers and veteran NCOs sometimes carry melee weapons and pistols as well as their rifles, but never instead of them. Hell you could just write their rank on their base

I believe Elysian NCOs get lasguns with auxiliary grenade launchers, which is better than a normal las gun, why have a lasgun when you can have a bolter?
Rifles can just be for aesthetic.
