So with the CA2018 changes reducing the cost of vanguard vets and plasma pistols, I'm wondering if it may now be a good idea to take vanguard squads armed with double plasma pistols. Compared to inceptors, a squad of 10 of these guys would cost 270 points and shoot 20 plasma shots, as opposed to 6 inceptors costing 354 points and shooting an average of 24 plasma shots. The inceptors have superior range and 12W as opposed to 10W, but they're easily killed by 2-wound weapons.

So what do you think? Is this a viable unit for a deep-strike-based list (or even to disembark from a stormraven/land raider/rhino/razorback), or are inceptors generally a better pick?

Yeah, 2 damage does kill em faster...But there is still a lot more 1 damage weapons too. I think the Interceptors are still better.

I think the vanguards are better than plasmaceptors by a wide margin, but assault bolter inceptors are better at things you need in the game than van vets with plasma pistols

I haven't made a list with a whole unit of them, but in my Deathwatch lists my plasma vet squads run one with dual plasma pistols for the mixed squad benefits. It's tempting to model them with cowboy hats.
