Hey all,
I'm planning to (eventually) paint up a small Guard detachment (Battalion level, around 40 models). I want to do them nearly all at once and keep them very simple. I'll use a mix of modern Catachan and Cadian parts and a bunch of classic
IG metal models, so there will be a wide range of parts and poses and wargear. I plan to do basic color blocking of the uniform and armor, then a single light gray drybrush and a single Agrax wash, both head-to-toe.
For the "uniforms" I'm thinking to emulate the denim jeans and Carhartt jacket look that is pretty iconic here in Colorado. My board and its terrain are rugged and rocky with leafless trees and a cold, temperate climate feel, and also a bunch of rusting industrial scrap. To dress my planetary militia as though they are a bunch of oil field roughnecks or hard rock miners who pulled on regulation body armor and helmets over their daily work clothes feels like a good fit. I could also reverse the scheme for variety... brown canvas trousers and a denim jacket, or a blue or brown coverall, etc. Officers would be a little odd... either something completely different or just a single solid color, probably brown.
I'm open to feedback, thoughts on how the head-to-toe drybrush and wash strategy will work with these colors, whether it's a good look at all, off my rocker, etc.
