Pretty spectacular, really. Easily the best 40k related animations I've ever seen. The grittiness of it is just so spot on, I loved this artists interpretation of the plasma pistol!

I'm certain I read somewhere that all of this is the work of one person? Even more spectacular if so!

With a fan this dedicated and talented you'd think GW'd be chomping at the bit to do something with him/her.

Those are very very cool. The marines are a tad too invincible, but the visual effects are stunning.

That's really really good! Has anyone actually emailed/facebooked it to GW? Might be they've no idea it exists.

Great work!

Marines acting, fighting and surviving how they 'should' - looks spot on.

I'm sure that bigger, tougher things await (behind door number 2?), and that will see the Marines start to take some punishment too...

Yup, I’ve long loved this mini series. The Marines are seeing heavier resistance now, I look forward to the next episode!

Reminds me of that one Judge Dredd video. I wonder if it was 'inspired' by it?

And yeah, this should be mandatory viewing for people claiming certain two other fan videos have 'good' animation (despite being quite terrible). I like it, artist knows how to animate movement, depiction of astartes is quite nice, really, only thing that is missing is showing they move faster than regular humans but was quite nice tech demo

Looks amazing, second only to the 30k Death of Hope in visuals, imo its better than Lord Inquisitor. One thing I want to point out and see better is the size, mostly height of the enemy human combatants, in Astartes its hard to tell, but in Lord Inquisitor during the parade march, the regular IG in uniform looks like clones, I think that's one of the reason it threw me off a bit.

The sound of the weaponry and background noise is top, better than Death of Hope, I've made a post reviewing that 2nd trailer where the Ultrasmurf's head gets blown off point blank by a volkite pistol, sounds nothing like how i would imagine, nor the effect at point blank range. Some of the dialogue could use some work too.

This is significantly better than any other 40k animation that comes to mind, if only because there's no terrible voice acting.

The sound design, the direction, all top notch.

While they may seem OP, this is pretty close to how the fluff tends to portray them: unstoppable monsters giving their foes trans-human shock and all that.

Not sure if that's a good idea, the creator of these shorts accepts donations and has a Patreon running for this, something GW has frowned upon in the past.

Loved this series since the first one released a while back. It's a very slick, stylish interpretation of 40k. It's certainly missing a lot of the dirty, gritty, grimdark feel of the setting but that's ok since that's not really point.

This is neo-noir 40k as if directed by Chris Nolan which means it's all about sleek surfaces, dramatic lighting, and heavy color grading that compresses everything into blues and oranges. It even has the pulsating, Hans Zimmer action movie score complete with brassy BRAAAAAAMMMM sounds. It's a style of filmmaking that highlights the intensity of the moment above all else. Awesome to see 40k get this sort of treatment and I can't wait to see the next episode.

I hope his version of Terminators make an appearance.

Possibly to save the Marines once they get to The Real Bad Guys?

I think it is very gritty and dark personally, mainly because of the absolutely ruthlessness of the marines, but also the michael myers type mystery around them. They make no noise are unfazed by anything thrown at them but also don't display any joy, it's just pure and cold.

Yes, that's definitely a major plus.

The showcase of the plasma pistol shot blowing through the smoke is amazing. 10/10, would astartes again.

I love the functional considerations, as well. The boarding craft has drones that follow along and intercept, presumably flash-banging to overload targeting systems to protect the craft as it zeros in.

And then how the marine just side-steps into cover while flash-banging the multi-laser targeting system, and then boom. Plasma to the face. Love it!

Don't really need dialogue to tell a good story or be engaging and this proves my point!

Already leagues better than Lord Inquisitor and the marines look realistic and clean. Their bolters have a nice chugging sound and lovely effects. This must of taken weeks to render and finalize...

Color me impressed.

I like that it feels fairly believable in the way the assault unfolds, the marines advance and the tactics being used by the defenders.

I was impressed. The lack of dialogue and minimal text makes this suitable for international audiences too. And it's nice to see an animation where the creator and their friends don't ham it up with sub-par voice acting, channeling their inner pantomime villain.

Yep, the best of the current animation efforts going around. I particularly enjoy the artist's understanding of range, distance, etc. The hallway shot of them dumping a heavy stubber at distant Marines is pretty damn cool - likewise the distance used by the twin multi-laser is great. A lot of GW animations seem to want to mimic the comically reduced distances we use on the tabletop (because we can't always justify a 20'x15x board in the average house...). So when seeing animation, it's nice to see actual distance portrayed.

The autocannon shooting/sound was probably my favourite, though the scene where the gunners are presumably shot by Marines are too quick to really notice.

Also, nice to see the fluff paid attention to rather than the game - Astartes are always tremendously cooler in the fluff/lore than on the tabletop. I wonder what the two big baddies in the beginning are, as they're Astartes sized, and striking some of the cultists with what looks like a power maul or tazer.

Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

I have been loving these shorts since they started coming out so much. Possibly the best animated 40K stuff I have ever seen, the unstoppable marines combined with the awesome art direction (that plasma shot ) make for something that the miniatures and game often fail to show. Truly impressive stuff!

I'm impressed. My favorite parts are the plasma pistol firing in the 3rd part and especially (strangely enough) the marines simply walking down the hall of the Cobra Frigate and the serfs moving out of their way in the first video.
