Subject: Sector imperialis - how many buildings for modelling up a cities of death style 40k board?

Having gone down the MDF route for my necromunda board, I'd now like to make a cities of death style 40k board but using the sector imperialis kits. The kits look amazing, but not sure how many I'd be looking at to make a decent city style board as haven't seen them in real life and can't quite judge the size. So looking for some advice (and pics if possible!) to see how others have done it!
I'm guessing around 8-9 buildings plus some ruins... does that sound about right or would that be too sparse?
Thanks for any advice!

8-9 buildings sounds about right, and you'll get about one in each of the kits. You can split the Basilicanum into two smaller buildings, but if you want your structures to be a decent size or have multiple stories it's going to take quite a few boxes. It is really cool terrain though.

Cool, thanks!
I was thinking the imperial sector would maybe stretch to 4 buildings, then get one each of the sanctum, basilicanum, administratum and derelict factorium (think those are the right names!) and then ruins and other bits of scatter to fill out.

I had similiar idea throughout last week and searched net for some pics and alternatives which i can share - found two worth checking, first is cost effective, second gives similiar price to GW but more variety of buildings.

Hope it'll help with your idea and give you some additional options

Thanks for the tips
TTcombat I used for my necromunda terrain - their hive stuff is really good but not really looked at the city so will have a proper look. Haven't come across the other one but looks interesting.
I think I'd like to use the plastic kits as they give a bit more variety in how you can assemble them... also easier to paint quickly with drybrushing as they have more raised details!

You do have a lot of leeway with how you assemble the Sector Imperialis terrain. If you bought a bunch of it you could just pool up all the parts and go crazy building pretty much anything you could think of. You can attach any two walls at 180*, 90* or 45* angles and can put floor sections pretty much anywhere, to include overhangs and bridges. You can also assemble floors in broken or whole sections. They put a lot of thought into the design, for sure.
