Howdy all,

My second game at Jons Tournament of Power (patent pending) was against Brent. Brent is a long time player and I guess he normally plays Sister of Battle or Demons, but decided to bring along his Space Wolves to give them a try as he had never played them. Because of this Brents list wasn't optimized, but he wanted to see what it could do. Lists (roughly from what I could remember):

Mission and Deployment
We played Nova mission Crusade with the Spearhead deployment.

Space Wolves took primary mission 1 (end of game scoring), with secondaries Moment of Bloodshed, Marked for Death (Knight), and Linebreaker. Death Guard took Primary mission 2 (end of turn scoring), strike the rank and file, big game hunter, and marked for death (one unit of wolves).

Deployment is as follows:

Death guard won the roll for first and Space Wolves failed to seize. The Wolf Scouts (both units) and all terminators on both sides were in reserve.

Nurgle Knights Turn 1
Spoiler:

I start by moving all the nurglings on the left side a bit, spreading between the objectives. In the middle everything moseys up, and I position the PBC's for the inevitable charge thats to come, hiding my Poxbringers and Demon prince in the middle. On the right the Knight moves up max range (The "base" of the ruins we are treating as a whole building per NOVA rules) on the right side of the building. Brent uses prepared positions at the beginning of my turn.

Psychic I smite a couple wolves.

Shooting I'm able to kill 3 longfangs from the far left squad, 1 from the middle squad, and 5 from the right squad. I also kill all the wolves in the right squad (after morale). Not bad!

Death guard scored Strike the Rank and file because the Space Wolves have no troops. They also score 1 Tertiary. Score is Death Guard 3- Space Wolves 0.

Space Wolves Turn 1
Spoiler:

Brent moves all the wolves to the middle, as everything else is long fangs.

Psychic phase he casts some cover save spell, and smites a nurgling.

Shooting ALL the longfangs frag missle the leading nurgling squad, killing it to one full base and one half base after leadership.

In assault he charges two PBC's with the wolves; I inform him they have flamers and he can take it back, but hes a man of honor and does it anyway... which kills all the wolves :/ Then the Calv charge into the lead PBC, which kills one wolf on overwatch. He also charges the battle leader, but fails the charge even with a reroll. He piles into a second PBC.

The PBC laughs, however, as all his Thunder hammers are made of rubber... he sneaks 3 wounds on it. At this point I feel bad.

Space Wolves score no points. Death Guard get their Marked for Death target. Score is Death Guard 5- Space Wolves 0.

Nurgle Knights Turn 2
Spoiler:

I move all my PBC's back from the TWC. My Knight whips around the right building. I then drop the Blightlords in the back.

Psychic I smite a few times, killing one more TWC.

Shooting I'm able to finish the one longfang from the right squad, and kill a handful of others.

Assault my Demon Prince and both poxbringers charge the TWC. However, the stormshields hold strong, and I kill one TWC and wound the other; meanwhile, his WG Battle Leader and remaining TWC wax my Demon Prince (doing something like 15 wounds because I fail all my invuns). Damn! The Blightlords make their charge, and kill: the rune priest, wolf guard battle leader, and all the longfangs, leaving one HQ there with 1 wound left.

At this point Brent calls it because his Terminators won't be able to salvage the game.

Space Wolves Turn 2
Spoiler:

Concession

[u]Results and Post Game thoughts/u]
Spoiler:

Death Guard win by Concession turn 2.

I felt horrible about this game because I was told to bring something good... I didn't realize Brent hadn't played space wolves before until we started talking :/ I think this game was lost from the get-go personally; Brents list just didn't have what he needed to tackle something like mine. Not to mention when he deployed his Longfangs to counter my knight, this was a huge mistake - they had zero support and were stuck out in the open. This gave me an easy choice turn one, I had a way to prevent LOS to the knight from his other longfangs, and secure a squad early. I did, however, underestimate how powerful those TWC/Battle Leaders with Thunder Hammers are... gonna have to watch out for that in the future!

Hopefully Brent learned a lot, and he was extremely enjoyable to play; I look forward to a future rematch!

Nurglings are there to bog stuff down, not kill anything. At least in these lists... a nurgling epidemus list i would definitely bring him along.

Yeah that is an... interesting Space Wolves list, to say the least.

Half his list negates our built in army rule. We're definitely not Ultramarines with a ton of back line fire support usually lol. Hope he had fun and learned a lot at least.

Yeah, Brent (from what I was told) is extremely experienced and typically takes Sisters or Demons. For some reason that day he brought his Space Wolves he had yet to play with; so I think he learned a lot!
