I thought I'd better start a thread that will serve as a catch all for my various projects set in the war-torn universe 40,000 years in the future. It will have stuff bought last week along with stuff I've collected in my 28+ years playing 40K.

Starting off with some recently painted Goliaths, the 'Ourangs'. I've had the new Necro box set for a year now and just got to it. Goliaths are my least favorite gang so I painted them first... also my friend started and finished his Escher before me

I decided to give them some ratskins, still haven't decided on the backstory for that. Maybe the gang founder was aided by Ratskins for some reason and adopted their traditional costume as a sign of respect. I ended up liking these guys quite a bit after I got done. My intention was to speed paint them pretty quick so I used a lot of washes instead of direct painting.

Love the Goliaths.

Still cringe every time I see the Dialogous, nothing can be done to save that sculpt , it’s the eyes/glasses and hair

Agreed, it's a face only a mother could love I have a second that is getting a headswap.

I need to redo the Eagle on the scroll, my lack of respect for the miniature came through on that!

Really liking the gold/white combo on the armor. Awesome job on the Sister Superior's face, too. Fantastic expression.

After joining up with an Inq28 group working on a frozen world project, I was inspired to make a mech and pilot myself. I hadn't done snow effects before, so it was pretty fun. Credit to "Blasphemia Blackwood" who posted a really great picture of a mech in snow, with a nicely painted backdrop- which I shamelessly copied.

Ventor Tentyritæ is one of the last surviving members of the once prosperous Tentyritæ family. The family was the foremost supplier of Gelidan animals to wealthy offworld clients looking for exotic specimens. It was said that numerous xenos beasts supplied by House Tentyritæ made their way to the Necromundan Hive Primus, destined for the laboratories of House Escher or Spire menageries, and rumor has it that some beasts were even seen in the fighting arenas of Commorragh.
After Gelida was cut off from the Imperium, Tentyritæ's patronage disappeared and their fortunes fell drastically...

I see this as a sort of spinoff from the 40K Xeno beast hunter group I painted several months ago. The last shot has some Photoshopped snow effects.

That's some beautiful wear n' tear on the mech. I also love the addition of the hood on Ventor. Makes it a completely new model.

Thanks for the comments all, appreciated.

I've had several snow days over the last couple of weeks, so I was able to put the time to good use and knocked out my remaining Blackstone Fortress miniatures a few days ago. Happy to get this one done before the Ambull expansion released

These are great, you're a fantastic painter.

How long did it take you to do all the Blackstone Fortress models?

Thank you, I've been painting miniatures for quite a few years

That's a good question on total time, I really should start keeping track. The heroes took the longest, I'd guess around 25 hours on them total. Probably about the same or just a bit more on the hostiles. Even though there are a lot more of them- they can be done in more of a production line method. I cut some corners by using a lot of washes.

I ended up doing the bases all at once at the end which added another two hours roughly.

That's all just a rough guess. I'm going to log my next project, now I'm curious!

Amazing work all around. The spindle drones are my favorite, just because i like that choice of color so much.

I've been working on fantasy projects so it's been a while since I posted. I recently finished some oldschool Rogue Trader era miniatures that GW never released; they were finally released by Wargames Foundry about two years ago. Two Arbites and an Administratum scribe, along with a Confession Booth by MaxMini. They're on the primitive side in terms of sculpting but they fit in with all the other stuff from the 80s/early90s that I have.

Thanks, it's a fun model. I have no idea why it took me so long to buy it! I should mention that the text on the top screen is a decal, the lower green screen is hand painted however.

Thanks! I have painted quite a lot of Africans over the years, I have a big Foundry Darkest Africa collection. Generally I use a warm darkish brown as the base tone- in this case I used a mix of Americana 'Soft Black' and GW 'Mournfang Brown' as a base, then a wash of 'Agrax Earthshade', layered with 'Mournfang' again leaving some of the darker areas, highlight this with Ceramcoat 'Toffee Brown', then a wash of GW 'Reikland Flesh' to tie it back together. I sometimes use 'Cadian Flesh' as a final highlight. The trick in my opinion is to stay on the 'warm brown' side of things.

I have an old tutorial on the Lead Adventure Forum that lays out my process, some of the paints have changed over the years.

Here's a pic of some recently completed Imperial Naval Security I kitbashed. I used Dreamforge Eisenkern bodies, shoulder pads and weapons from Mad Robot, and helmets from MaxMini. The bases are from Champ Industries. The officer is from Victoria Miniatures. She has a new bionic hand, the original came with a hook. The backdrop is a space picture I bought off eBay, with a wall in front of it.

The descriptions of the Naval Security troops in Dan Abnett's 'Eisenhorn' books stuck with me, and I'd been wanting to make some versions of the troops ever since I read the books a few years ago. I accumulated the components, and the project went on the back burner for a few years. When GW recently announced the Necromunda Enforcers, which have a similar carapace armor vibe, I knew I had to get them done quick or I'd never get to them!

As always, I'm flitting around between projects and have been working on some stuff for the Gelida: Frozen Expanse community project in between Rangers of Shadow Deep and other random 40K stuff. I recently finished some canids for the Frozen Expanse, based on Fenrisian Wolves. Four will get snow bases, one will end up in the Dark Eldar arena

There's some WIP shots on the blog. https://miniatureextravaganza.blogspot.com/2019/06/gelida-frozen-world-project-canids.html
