In light of the new missions in CA2018, I was wondering if people had any thoughts on whether the Loyal32 are still the best ingredient in Imperial Soup? Sure they are cheap bodies but the new rules for scoring missions make Troops that can enter from Reserve pretty handy.
3 squads of Scions and their officer(s) can drop in from Reserve to seize objectives, shoot better and can be loaded out with plasma. They still have access to the Grand Strategist and Kurov's Aquila. Slightly more expensive than the Loyal32 but a bit better and free Deep Strike on Troops is pretty handy now.
Skitarii are not bad either. 3 units of 5 Vanguard with 2 Transuranic Arquebuses and 2 Enginseers are fairly cheap as well. No CP recycling here but decent backfield objective holders with some respectable firepower. The Stygies trait for -1 to Hit over 12" is always a good one and also opens up the "Clandestine Infiltration" strat to get a unit in from Reserve. A big unit of Rangers can unleash some decent horde-shredding firepower on the turn they arrive with this one.
What is you preferred soup Battalion post-CA2018 and why?
