For people who have the venerable Dreadnoughts.

-How big is it compared to a space marine? Isn't it just the size of the interred space marine? Or would it be too huge as the fellow noobs <we are all new to the game> keep saying.
-I was wanting to buy the head portion of the venerable Dreadnought of the spacewolves chapter so I could kit bash the wolf skull helm for a wolf preist I want for my army.
-Sure I could just get a normal skull helm or go with the wolf helm from the upgrade sprue and have something easily made. But that's not as fun. I could just get Ulrik the slayer so I can chop off that helmet as a last resort. My group just wants me to get the old man model. Since its easy. But they want everything to be done easily.

I cant speak for the SW kit, but the Ven Dread heads work fine for normal marines. They might be a tad big, but they are more heavily armored than most helmets, so it fits.

I really need to drink my coffee before I reply. How the normal Ven Dread heads fit is not very useful information, as you are asking about a very specific head. I blame the similarity in kit names and undercaffination.

After a quick look at Bitsandkits the mountings for the SW ven dread heads are not the same as the regular SM one. Although the heads are the same size, there appears to be no rear to them and would require significant work to get them to fit on a SM body.

The skull one in particular has the lower jaw mounted to a separate plastic piece, whilst the upper is identical to all the other wolf skulls.

Here is the bit in question. Being plastic it shouldn't be too hard to mod, but I suspect the lower part is hollow underneath which may make it a little more difficult.

Wouldn't the underside of the helmet not be seen as well?
