Hi everyone, my first post.

Just finished a unit of Chaos Terminators. In the Codex They have a combi-flamer, combi-melta. However, the models actually have the flamer and meltas, but underneath they have a chainsaw. Am I to asume that they have the Boltgun and that the chainsaw is just for looks ?
Or can I use the Bolt gun, flamer and then use my chainsaw for close combat and my other close combat weapon on the other arm ?Since the Terminator can attack twice, my question would also be. Since I have 2 attacks, I would have 3 total: 2 attacks from stats + the extra attack from the Chainsaw.

'Fraid not. It is just for show. You either have a chainfist or nothing so no additional attacks like a chainsword.

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you.

It's funny, when I started the hobby almost 20 years ago, my very first purchase was a unit of Chaos Terminators and I had the exact same question.

The chainsword attachment at the bottom of the gun is purely aesthetic. It has no in game function.

Which is the same for Bayonets on Guardsmen to be fair.

The game assumes that all models have some way of making basic melee attacks. If they don't have claws or other natural weapons, that means any knives or such they might be carrying.

A chain bayonet is not a chainsword, it just counts as a basic melee weapon essentially.

They totally had a function in 2nd ed though. They functioned as a 2nd CCW for an extra attack provided the combi weapon wasn't used for shooting in the same turn.

I know I was a little confused by them since they pretty much look like Chad Valencio's chainfist except for being on a weapon. I think I figured they didn't mean anything since it would be hard not to include one without cutting them off.

Interesting, I didn't know that. I started in 3rd. Back when terminators were the size of squat marines now.

Yep, it's a hold over from 2nd edition. Chaos had a lot of little quirks back then (the combi-weapons mounted in Dreadnought shoulders, etc.).

After 2nd it was just an aesthetic bit.
