I'm looking for 40K primarily (but I'll look into AOS/Fantasy as well) books that feature Chaos Daemons as central to the story, either from an antagonist or protagonist point of view. I have the Ahriman Omnibus and it is great, I bought The Emperor's Legion today and I know about Fear to Tread, but I was wondering what else was out there.

The Horus Heresy books that deal with the Word Bearers would be a good start. I don't know off the top of my head which books those are though, sorry.

The First Heretic, Aurelian, Betrayer

The Eisenhorn series doesn't feature daemons generally that much but one specific daemonhost (Cherubael) becomes an increasingly primary character.

Grey Knight books are pretty good (obviously...) for daemon content. Grey Knight and The Emperor's Gift.

Daemon World and Malodrax both do. Saying that, I personally think Ben Counter gets too caught up in the daemons. They may make sense in his head, but they don't always translate well to paper, especially in Malodrax.

Fear to Tread is more about the blood angels really. Daemons never tend to be the focal point of novels, as with no proper human connection how do you really make them into a compelling narrative? they are more just an enemy/ally of your primary characters.

I second First Heretic. the Magnus/thousand sons heresy books might be worth a look too, as I imagine they cover the warp aspects quite deeply.

lords of silence is a decent read, and features daemon mortarion briefly.

Plague War also has daemons, and from their perspective. It’s also a good book unlike the gakky Ben Counter ones. Also featuring daemon Mortarion and a cameo from daemon Fulgrim.
