I've picked up a box of Sector Imperialis bases and have noticed the texture on them is a little lacking. I've spotted a few examples where it looks like people have used GW texture paint on them, but I'm not too sure how to go about doing it without ballsing them up. I feel like I might have already made a mistake by attaching them to miniatures before painting...?

If anyone has any insights/ links to tutorials they could provide to point me in the right direction it'd be really appreciated!

I've found the "metal" sections look fine painted up neat, but that it is worth gluing a little sand to the rubble areas and in some of the cracks, just to add a finer grain when painting the bases. That is a really quick and easy way to add some extra texture, but you could probably get better results with texture paints and sand.

But I don't like basing models, so sand + SI base it is
