How do!

Sorry I can't provide exact wording, as I'm at work and my book is at home.

But there was a comment in one of my other threads which made me stop and question my understanding of how AM Brood Brothers can be worked into a GSC army.

From memory, the first part of the rule explains that we can include AM units in a GSC army, without losing Creed benefits. So far, so good. The next bits explain that we can only have one AM detachment for every GSC detachment.

Now, my take on that is that if I want to ally in AM units as Brood Brothers, they need to be added a separate Detachment in my army. I can't simply add say, three Manticores as Heavy Support to a GSC Batallion Detachment. But the comment challenged that perception - and suggested we can indeed just add AM units to a GSC Detachment.

For clarity, this is an open question. I've no particular horse in this race, as my current army involves an AM Detachment anyway. I'm just looking to check if I've misread things or not.

You're right. The wording is:

Spoiler:
BROOD BROTHERS
Several GENESTEALER CULTS units also have the BROOD BROTHERS keyword. These units can be included in a GENESTEALER CULTS Detachment without preventing other units in that Detachment from gaining a Cult Creed.
Note, however, that BROOD BROTHERS units do not themselves benefit from any Cult Creed.
In addition, to represent Astra Militarum forces that have been subverted, you can include ASTRA MILITARUM units and GENESTEALER CULTS units in the same matched play army, even though these units do not have any Faction keywords in common. In such cases, ignore the ASTRA MILITARUM units when choosing your army’s Faction.

So there are Brood Brother units from the GSC book, and separate AM Brood Brother allies.

Pretty much what I thought.

But I can see why some thing it's ambiguous without the next paragraph that explains how we can include AM units, as that solely mentions additional detachments.

I wish they hadn't overloaded Brood Brothers like that. It's used for a GSC unit, a keyword shared by some GSCs units and some AM units under certain conditions, and a detachment of said AM units.

Could have been done way more clearly.

I don't really get why 'codex native' stuff is Brood Brother.

See, in the olden days, Brood Brothers weren't Hybrids, just Cult Devotees (humans infected by the kiss).

But hey, I'm only taking a few AM bits, so not something I especially need to think about.

Agreed. They should have kept the term Brood Brothers separate from any units in GSC detachments to avoid confusion.
