So, looking at the ridiculous number of unpainted miniatures I have I decided, for motivation, to make a list that I can paint to 100% completion and not buy/assemble/paint anything else in the mean time.

I'm looking for some criticism and feedback on the list and to see if there are any tweaks to be made or things that I may have overlooked. My local club has a few tournament players I would like to go up against so this needs to be at least semi-competitive.

++ Battalion Detachment +5CP (Chaos - Death Guard) [53 PL, 818pts] ++

+ HQ +

Daemon Prince of Nurgle : 4. Blades of Putrefaction, 6. Arch-Contaminator, Malefic talon, The Suppurating Plate, Warlord, Wings

Sorcerer : 1. Miasma of Pestilence, 5. Putrescent Vitality, Bolt pistol, Force sword

+ Troops +

Chaos Cultists : 39x Chaos Cultist w/ Autogun
. Cultist Champion: Autogun

Chaos Cultists : 9x Chaos Cultist w/ Autogun
. Cultist Champion: Autogun

Plague Marines : 17x Plague Marine w/ boltgun
. Plague Champion
. . INDEX: Combi-bolter, Plague knife

++ Battalion Detachment +5CP (Chaos - Thousand Sons) [38 PL, 711pts] ++

+ HQ +

Ahriman : Death Hex, Glamour of Tzeentch, Prescience

Daemon Prince of Tzeentch : Gaze of Fate, Malefic talon, Warptime, Wings

+ Troops +

Chaos Cultists : 39x Chaos Cultist w/ Autogun
. Cultist Champion: Autogun

Chaos Cultists : 9x Chaos Cultist w/ Autogun
. Cultist Champion: Autogun

Tzaangors : Brayhorn, 19x Tzaangor w/ Tzaangor Blades
. Twistbray: Tzaangor blades

++ Patrol Detachment (Chaos - Daemons) [24 PL, -1CP, 471pts] ++

+ No Force Org Slot +

Chaos Allegiance: Khorne

Rewards of Chaos (1 Relic) [-1CP]

+ HQ +

Bloodmaster

Daemon Prince of Chaos : Malefic Talons, Khorne, Skullreaver, Wings

+ Troops +

Bloodletters: 29x Bloodletter, Bloodreaper, Daemonic Icon, Instrument of Chaos

++ Total: [115 PL, -1CP, 2000pts] ++

The idea of the list is to force my opponent to shoot Cultists that wastes heavy weapons and are resilient to small arms fire because they have -1 to be hit and in the case of the Nurgle ones may also be at toughness 4. This is achieved through Cloud of Flies Stratagem (1 CP) on the Plague Marines to make them unable to be targeted unless they are the closest unit and reserving the Tzaangors & Bloodletters. The 10 man Cultist squads do their best to hide and camp home objectives.

The Khorne Daemon Prince is there to wreck heavy things like Knights and the other two Daemon Princes can handle lighter vehicles or medium infantry. Ahriman smites and buffs. The Plague Marines are for threefold reasons; I love the models, they are a very tough unit to protect the Daemon Princes should a list shoot down my 100 Cultists and if they can get buffed with Prescience and/or Blades of Putrefaction and/or Arch-Contaminator and/or Veterans of the Long War they can actually dish out a world of hurt to most things.

A few potential problems I can think of and would like to hear opinions on ;

- The list is on the slower end since the only units with speed are Princes and they want to hide behind the infantry. I'm hoping this is somewhat offset by Warptime, the T2 bombs and Inexorable Advance.

- Going second. The opponent getting a turn before I can cast anything, activate Cloud of Flies etc. might be very painful as they shoot the Plague Marines and/or unbuffed cultists greatly diminishing their ability to walk up the board as a screen. Is terrain, range and the cover stratagem enough to weather this in most cases?

- Psyker defence shenanigans. I need to cast 4 powers minimum per turn for mobility and survivability. If the opponent can mess with this then the Cultists aren't fearless and are sitting ducks defensively.

So there you have it. I guess what I'm looking for is advice from people who have tried/seen something similar and how well it played out. Would also like to know if there are any glaring oversights or potential synergies I have missed by changing detachments etc.

As for what kind of missions this list will have to play I'm not 100% sure as it changes depending on what tournaments are coming so assume a mixture of CA, ETC and Maelstrom.

Regards, Beast.

Alot of infantry but meh ranged firepower no?

Whilest -1 might happen for your Cultists it's only 50%.

A Mostly Renegades and Heretics blog.
GW:"Space marines got too many options to balance, therefore we decided to legends HH units."
Players: "why?!? Now we finally got decent plastic kits and you cut them?"
Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"
Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH.

Running big blobs of 40 cultists without access to tide of traitors seems a waste to me. If you were to instead run the deathguard part of yout list as Alpha legion you would be at -1 over 12 and you could still miasma if you wanted to.
Having a CSM detachment would let you use ToT on either cultist blob.
If you know you're going second (which is likely after chapter approved 18) you can always webway infiltrate your tzaangors and tson cultists.
I also wouldn't run the bloodmaster, you generally don't need the extra strength for your bloodletters as they will munch everything without the boost and it will only effect T5 and T6 stuff.
I've played a similar chaos hoarde list beforehand but with 1 more daemon prince and horrors instead of tzaangors. It played really well st a couple of tournaments. It's just a pain to move 150 models!

Yes ToT and Endless Cacophony are painful to miss. However taking your advice I think maybe the TSons is the better detachment to remove. With TSons and Bloodmaster gone I have enough points for a Sorcerer, two Daemon Princes and 60 cultists. 20 of which can be Alpha Legion Nurgle for a possible -2 to hit and 40 blob can be Slaanesh for Endless Cacophony goodness.

So if I go that route do you think one Slaanesh Prince for Delightful Agonies is worth it?

Also my thinking on Bloodmaster was for the reroll charge, I know I can possibly get the Daemon Prince in range to help with that. Nothing hurts me more than dropping a 200+ point melee powerhouse and failing the charge =( especially paper thin Bloodletters.

I like the slanesh daemon prince with intoxicating elixir he can really hit hard. I run him with delightful agonies or diabolic strength (depending whether I'm facing lots of high toughness or lots of anti infantry).

I usually just daisy chain my bloodletters back to my daemon prince for reroll charges and 1s to hit if I'm out of position. With banner of blood and a command point reroll you're unlikely to not get an 8 inch charge even if you don't get the aura.

I think hoardes will be powerful again with CA rules changes such as tabelling not being an auto win and scoring at the end of a battle round. They'll outscore a lot of opponents by just playing the mission.

That is exactly how I motivate myself. Make a ncie list you love and focus 100% on that list.

Chaos was the law of nature; Order was the dream of man.
