Boom! Leman Russ Commander

United States

Hey everyone,

This is my first thread post here in a long time. I am about to slowly get back into rebuilding my Imperial Guard army (Or Astra Militarum as it is called now). I am mostly interested in the modelling, but still want a semi-competitive army. I will be using Tallarn regimental doctrines, from my research they seem to interest me the most. I am very new to 8th edition. I had stopped playing sometime during 5 or 6e. I forget.

Since I am just starting modelling my army list is pretty open. I plan to use a lot of Heavy weapon teams since I enjoy modelling them, and lots of infantry squads. My goal is to have an outflanking hellhound or devil dog force with special weapon support teams, a main base of moving guard units with plasma and/or flamers, and then a scattering that stand back with HWT along with HWT to blast away at the enemy. To support this will be a few Leman Russes that I have in storage, along with a tank commander or two.

Now on to my actual question. I really like the assassin models, as well as the possible conversions I could do with them. My question has a few layers. First are any of them useful in an Imperial Guard army, if so which ones and what do they give? Second what is the best way to add them as a detachment to my army.

Thank you.

Assassins just got new rules in the March white dwarf. You now leave an 85 point hole in your list, and during deployment pay 1 CP and pick the best assassin vs your given opponent. They're really good, and all of them will have uses depending on what your opponent is.

Now almost always useful to bring an assassin in every army. Cant think of situation when bringing one would be bad.

For your 85pt assassin, all but the vindicare would be useful. He's better in pairs or triples.
