Hi

I actually tacked this on the end an old thread but I thought I'd start a new one.

I was wondering about adding light vehicles to Kill Team.

Before that though...
My son (11) and I enjoy kill team. it plays quicker overall and also there is much less time waiting for the other guys to do stuff. So it suits an 11 year old well and suits me because we can play shorter games more often, whihc also suits an 11 year old and a busy 50 year old.

However ......... we do miss our favourite models and they were mostly vehicles.

So I googled Vehicles in Kill team and didnt get much. Apologies if there are loads of threads on this already.

Anyway it occurred to me this morning that perhaps GW have provided the solution to this in the form of the 'Commanders' rules.

Substitute a Kill team commander with a light vehicle, walker etc. You just need to adopt the commanders data sheet ....which actually isnt a big leapo for something like a sentinel. S T W all drop 1 .....i think.

My all Space marine scout Kill team could have a Sentinel walker commander. (open cockpit with him waving a plasma pistol and a combi weapon on the side and or chainsaw underneath)
I thought I could make my iron hands Kill team a Kit bashed Contemptor dreadnought Commander - maybe kitbash the armour a bit to make it look 'less tough'. (S4 and 5W worth of tough)
and my sons Space marines army could now have a 'Command ship' as apposed to a Commander in the form of a Landspeeder.

All these come on 60mm bases and are very easy to set up with various weapons options compatible with the commander rules.

I found a datasheet online that had been made up by someone using the space marine commander Kill team stats. Ill attach it. 5 wounds and 4 attack seems fine for a sentinel walker or landspeeder in terms of 'narative' or fluff.
You'll have to use the other stats for the other factions.

And Lo ..... now you have your favourite light vehicle on the table and a set of approved rules.

I haven't tried this so i would be interested to hear your thoughts or comments

anyway ..... just a thought.

Might work as a homebrew rule with limited army selection (as in, the armies that you own).

As an addition to the game as a whole, I'm not sure on the feasibility of its implementation on a balance stand point as only thing that would be able to reliably damage light vehicles is plasma equivalent, and not every army comes with the option.

From a balance standpoint I'd think some armies will have a very easy time against them.

The points costs of many anti-vehicle weapons are significantly reduced in kill team, most likely due to the lack of vehicles for them to be shooting at.
For instance a meltagun is 17 points in 40k, vs only 3 points in kill team. Similar points reductions for things like missile launchers.
So armies like space marines won't mind having a target for their super cheap high damage weapons at all.

Other armies may not have the options to give their infantry anti-vehicle weapons. So won't have such an easy time. Necrons for instance, maybe thousand sons. Against light vehicles though, they should still do ok.

There is a very similar Kill team featured in White Dwarf - issue 30 p40

Andy Cook's Raven Guard Succesor Chapter - 10 Scout Marines and a Marine in a Sentinal - doesn;t say how it worked in the Warhammer World comp....

"I will admit that some Primachs like Russ or Horus could have a chance against an unarmed 12 year old novice but, a full Battle Sister??!! One to one? In close combat? Perhaps three Primarchs fighting together... but just one Primarch?" da001

It's a neat concept, and it would probably be fine with something like a sentinel. However, there aren't a lot of vehicles in 40k that are likely to be suited for Kill Team without breaking the game or making lots of anti-tank team members mandatory to have a chance of taking it out.

So basically, the core concept seems fine, but be very careful when adding something beefier than a sentinel.

ATTENTION
. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.
