Hey everyone!

I am looking for inspiration on how to create an Agri World map/terrain in 40k. I am probably going to buy a battlemat so what I need is the terrain to put on it. It has been REALLY hard to find good examples of this online or I am just terrible at searching.

My main idea is to use 7-11 slurpee tops (the clear plastic) to make rows of hydroponic containers and fill it with some sort of crop/fungi/grass. Outside of that I am unsure... I thought of creating large fields with huge crops with lanes to walk models through but I wasn't sure how to do that or what kind of crops would be used in 40k. Sadly livestock would look silly... but maybe I could do a wasted/destroyed livestock area.

Any ideas would be immensely helpful!

I remember listening to an Audiobook... it was about snipers stuck on a chaos riddled world. Do not recall the book title.
The sniper team sneaked their way through living areas into the fields and the granaries facility, and the fields that once been used to grow crops, but after the chaos, have been long abandoned. And then the scout team made their way into boggy swamps that had poisonous flora and gigantic moths that would feed on the poison mold.
The story sets the atmosphere and the setting well enough that I could imagine the 40K agricultural sector, and the one that has been under chaos for some time.

Regarding the terrain:
1 - I recall watching TerrainTutor make a video on grassy roofs. And he used Craft-Fur to a devastating effect indeed!
Would imagine Craft-Fur could be used to make grass fields, or ruined grain sections, with some hair-spray and comb, or water-down glue and comb.

2 - A sort of landing platform for the cargo supply ships to land and take off might be interesting.

3 - Silos and granaries with perhaps some sort of scifi watering system.

4 - Perhaps some small utilitarian structures that are the surface ventilation systems for HUGE underground storage complexes. Like little tips of icebergs.

Well Id say it 100% depends on what kinda terrain you want. you can fit Agri into almost any type of terrain.

from real world style farms with automatic tractors, greenhouse pods with stuff inside, alge farms on an ocean table, or all the way up to concrete zones with giant machinery processing crop and water into nutrition plates with huge los blocking vats and silos and stuff.

some basic ideas there.

For basic wheat fields you could do natural fiber floor mats, pretty easy and quick and functionally call being inside or behind it cover.

as for Meat, you could do a giant rendering plant. keep it mostly hidden with some outside storage areas full of "bones" of a mysterious nature. and ether pipe lines or boxes as the output.

Thanks for the ideas guys! Since I am running a campaign with space battles going on in orbit I think I will make the fields from the natural fiber as recommended and some hydroponics as well and leave big LOS blocking terrain up to a crashed space ship. So I can have fun burning some of the crops as well haha.

You could buy a coir fiber door mat from a hardware store, slice it into strips with a box knife, and mount them on MDF or PVC for fields of grain. Pink insulation foam cut, beveled, textured, and painted to match your table would give you raised roadways and drainage ditches to frame the fields. Promethium Forge makes great, inexpensive MDF kits that use empty beer cans to make silos and storage tanks. If you really want to build, I bet cheap toy tractors, dozers, and combines built up with plasticard decks and railings would give LOS blocking terrain and fun platforms to fight on.

I'd check out pintrest or the r/terrainbuilding reddit for inspiration ideas. I feel like I'd need to see pictures of what youre going for to give advice

Random ideas:

Steeply terraced slopes--typical step-style terrain with less natural edges.

Sci-fi greenhouses or hydroponics--could make a complex out of a couple translucent containers with aquarium plants inside, connected by tube and pipe gubbins.

Aquaculture ponds for fish or algae could make for interesting terrain. Circular or square pools with walkways, bridges, pipes, etc.

Irrigation systems--booms, pipelines, mobile sprayers.

Pesticide/fertilizer vehicles, trucks or even railroads for moving bulk crops.

Grain elevator complexes, especially combined with roads/rails/canals. You'd get some tall, monolithic the structures with silos and elevators.
